Encouraging Students to Participate in Election Activities, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Collaborates with the KISP Monitoring Institute

Yogyakarta, February 13th 2024─According to Wawan Mas’udi, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, two aspects make the 2024 General Election different from previous elections. First, the absence of an incumbent or direct incumbent makes the electoral competition more heated. This condition is also accompanied by increased competition between parties. Second, there is a massive shift in the demographics of voters. Now, voters in the 2024 elections are dominated by voters under the age of 40. This has raised concerns regarding the younger generation’s awareness of politics and citizenship. read more

Facing Demographic Bonus Challenges, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Hosts FGD with the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia

Yogyakarta, January 31st 2024─Currently, the employment landscape in Indonesia is changing due to the demographic bonus which causes the productive age population to be more dominant than the non-productive age population. The government and related parties, such as universities, are important in responding to this. To unravel various challenges and formulate strategies in facing the challenges of the labor market that will occur, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada together with the Ministry of Manpower organized a Focus Group Discussion between the Ministry of Manpower and UGM. The FGD with the theme “Employment Strategy and Policy to Support the Competence of Indonesian Human Resources Towards Golden Indonesia 2045” is a follow-up to the visit of the Rector of the UGM to the Ministry of Manpower in early January. read more

FISIPOL UGM Committed to Supporting Students in the Student Creativity Program

Yogyakarta, January 24th 2024─Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM is committed to encourage and support its students in participating in the Student Creativity Program (Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa/PKM). PKM itself is an event to facilitate as well as compete the creativity and innovation of students throughout Indonesia organized by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture.

“PKM is a very prestigious program. From year to year, FISIPOL UGM always contributes teams and achievements in PKM. We (the Faculty) think about the importance of the faculty in providing support and designing so that more and more Fisipol students are involved in PKM,” said Wawan Mas’udi, Dean of FISIPOL UGM, when giving a speech in the forum “Ngobrolin PKM di Fisipol 2024” organized by Career Development Center (CDC) FISIPOL UGM on Wednesday (24/1). Reviewing Indonesian Democracy and Tolerance, PolGov UGM and GUSDURian Network Hold Public Seminar

Yogyakarta, January 18th 2024─Ahead of the general elections to be held in February 2024, it is important for the public to review the democratic climate in Indonesia. Namely, related to the question of democratic principles that have been truly implemented in Indonesia or just ‘democracy as if’, as Abdurrahman Wahid, often called Gus Dur, used to describe the New Order era. Departing from this, the Research Center for Politics and Government (PolGov) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM together with the GUSDURian Network collaborated in organizing the Indonesia Rumah Bersama Seminar with the title “Challenges & Future of Democracy-Tolerance in Indonesia” at the Mandiri Auditorium of FISIPOL UGM on Thursday (18/1). Collaborative Survey of Election Corner (EC) Fisipol UGM and Praxis Highlights the Dilemma of the 2024 Election: Student Participation is Not Affiliated with Money Politics

Jakarta, January 15th 2024─Collaborative research of Election Corner (EC) Fisipol UGM with #PraxiSurvey shows that 42.96% of students stated that they would accept money but not vote for candidates. Furthermore, 20.08% of students will accept money and will vote for candidates, while another 10.99% stated that they would not accept money and would not vote for candidates.

Entitled “Student Aspirations and Preferences for the 2024 Election”, this research was conducted using a mixed method approach. The survey was conducted among 1,001 students aged 16-25 years in 34 provinces in Indonesia on January 1st to 8th, 2024. Then, an in-depth study in the format of Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held on January 15th, 2024 involving four academics and students representing the University of Indonesia (UI), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Mulawarman University (Unmul), and Nusa Cendana University (Undana). read more

Limited Discussion between Papua Task Force UGM and BSKLN of Ministry of Foreign Affairs RI

Yogyakarta, January 10th 2024The Papua Task Force of Universitas Gadjah Mada (GTP UGM) and the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency (BSKLN) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia organized a limited discussion with the theme “Strengthening Indonesian Diplomacy to Support the Development of Papua to Welcome the Golden Indonesia 2045”. The event was held offline in the Dean’s Meeting Room of BB Building 2nd floor of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM. This limited discussion activity was attended by various elements both from BSKLN Ministry of Foreign Affairs, GTP UGM, and the academic community in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM. read more
