Criticizing the Process of Social Development in Indonesia in Order to Achieve The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

One essential reference in the formulation of development policies in Indonesia is the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Fisipol UGM is trying to answer the process of achieving SDGs and what must be fixed in the process of social development in Indonesia through a national seminar entitled “Strengthening Social Development to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” on (23/10).

“Common sense knowledge appears as a knowledge that is gathered from the senses and then considered as a truth,” stated by Susetiawan, Lecturer at the Department of Social Development and Welfare in the 63rd Dies of Fisipol UGM speech.

Susestiawan added, common sense knowledge triggers a banality, in which that happens due to a social situation and command even though such action can be considered as a crime but conducted anyways due to obedience and considered as normal. Such action inhibits the growth of social development.

Fisipol UGM stresses that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the reaction of the previous development theory that was based on economic growth but has brought inequalities and environmental degradations. The dimensions that are the main focus of SDGs include social, economic and environmental.

“There are numerous accounts on local resources that are not used properly. The increasing imports on resources such as rice is considered to be high in Indonesia,” as stated by Janianton Damanik, Susetiawan, Lecturer at the Department of Social Development and Welfare.

“SDGs are not only solely the government’s responsibility, but also require the full support of all citizens,” as stated by Rahma Iriyanti, Expert Staff at the division of Social and Poverty Reduction of the Ministry of Development Planning during an interview after the event in Fisipol UGM.

This seminar was held by uniting academicians and policymakers in order to re-evaluate the achievements in the development process and to identify the possible obstacles as well as solutions to achieve the acceleration of national development to achieve the SDGs.
