Yogyakarta, 19 September 2018- more than ten Reog dancers along with lecturers and Fisipol
employees marched from the San Siro Park to the West Hall of Fisipol UGM (19/9). This
procession was the beginning of an event to commemorate the 63 rd Dies Natalis of Fisipol.
This year’s event was themed ‘Strengthening Social Development to Achieve SDG’s’. After
the opening ceremony, the series of event to commemorate this year’s Dies Natalis will last
until October. Some of the events include; dies speech, national seminars, visits of POR Fisip
and will be closed by family gathering and alumni meeting.
The event, which was opened by a performance by Reog Ponorogo Manggolo Mudho
Pawargo Yogyakarta, was proceeded with ribbon cutting and opening speeches from the
Chairman of the Dies Natalis Committee and the Dean of Fisipol. Afterwards, the event was
proceeded with a tumpeng competition, which was participated by all employees.
Interviewed after opening the event, the Dean of Fisipol UGM, Erwan Agus Purwanto said
that many things have changed in Fisipol since he started his service in 2000. “Back then,
everything was limited, whether its facilities, the ease to obtain materials and research.
Today, the condition is different, as the facilities that we have today are far better”, he stated.
The development of Fisipol was also felt by Yuli Sudarini, a librarian that works in Fisipol
since the 1990’s. She felt that various changes have occurred in Fisipol to answer
contemporary challenges. The changes ranged from more competent human resources until
improving facilities. She hoped, Fisipol can improve even further, “I also hope employees
can be more prosperous.” Paksi Wardana, a student from the Department of Public Policy and
Management batch of 2016 also felt that Fisipol has numerous differences from other
faculties in terms of facilities and culture. Fisipol is perceived as more casual compared to
other faculties. “If faculties north of Fisipol have stiff employees, the employees of Fisipol
are relatively laid-back. No task is too heavy”, he stated.
