Yogyakarta, March 5, 2026─The Gadjah Mada Youth Team from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) completed a 14-day expedition, social project, and research program in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). The team consisted of 12 students from the Faculty Student Activity Unit (UKMF) of the Nature and Environment Lovers Group (KPALH) of the FISIPOL Secretariat.

The activity, titled the Environmental Conservation Mission, ran from January 26 to February 10, 2026, and focused on mapping environmental governance, specifically waste management, while also providing concrete contributions to the communities in the buffer zone of the IKN, including Bumi Harapan Village, Pemaluan Subdistrict, and SMPN 27 Penajam Paser Utara (PPU). read more

Vandy Yoga Swara, lecturer at the Department of Social Development and Welfare (PSdK), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Universitas Gadjah Mada, has recently published his latest scholarly work in the international journal Habitat International (Elsevier). The article, titled “River’s End: The Violence of Indigenous Riverine Urbanization in the Making of Indonesia’s New Capital,” was co-authored with Kei Otsuki and Femke van Noorloos (Utrecht University, Netherlands) as well as Michelle Kooy (IHE-Delft Institute for Water Education, Netherlands). read more

A FISIPOL UGM lecturer has launched her latest academic work in the book “Routledge Handbook of Human Rights in Southeast Asia” on Wednesday (July 9) during an event held at the University of Melbourne, Australia. The book is co-edited by Prof. Amalinda Savirani, lecturer at the Department of Politics and Government, FISIPOL UGM, and Dr. Ken M.P. Setiawan, Senior Lecturer in Indonesian Studies at the Asia Institute, University of Melbourne.

This handbook represents a significant contribution to the study of human rights in Southeast Asia. Bringing together leading international experts, the book not only addresses the region’s most pressing human rights issues but also highlights the roles of actors and institutions working to foster improvement. read more

The Department of Public Policy and Management (DMKP), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with Residential College 4 (RC4) of the National University of Singapore (NUS), organized the Southeast Asia Friendship Initiative (SFI) 2025. This nine-day program, held from May 17–25, 2025, focused on issues of water governance, climate change, and community empowerment in Indonesian urban areas, particularly in Yogyakarta and Jakarta.

A total of 22 students from NUS, along with student facilitators from DMKP UGM, actively participated in the program. They were guided by faculty members from both institutions, including Dr. Erda Rindrasih, Dr. Ario Wicaksono, Dr. Dede Puji Setiono, and Dr. Navarun Varma from NUS. The program adopted participatory learning methods, such as field observations, stakeholder discussions, and research presentations. read more

“Through the roadshow, we want to “kulanuwun”, greeting friends from various university in Indonesia and introducing the Ajisaka Festival as a collaborative space for creative folks in expressing their care and concern towards the issue that we have raised,” Adelia Christi mentioned in the interview, as the Leader of Ajisaka Festival .

The Ajisaka Roadshow started on the 20th of February at Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta and UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. The roadshow program is planned to be organized frequently until the 24th of March. The roadshow agenda is done offline in campuses at Yogyakarta and Solo, while it will be done online at the other campuses. The roadshow consists of information sharing in regards to the competition categories, janamejaya video screening, and icebreaking activities. read more

Yogyakarta, March 1st 2025─Festival Ajisaka, an annual event initiated by the Department of Communication Science students, is back with a theme that carries the spirit of sustainability. This year, the Festival Ajisaka raises the issue of green economy with the title “Gaman Kamulyan: Echoing the Hope of Sustainability”. This theme was chosen as a form of concern for the importance of environmentally sound economic development, especially in the midst of an increasingly worrying environmental crisis. read more

Yogyakarta, February 25th 2025─The Department of the Public Policy and Management held a Studium Generale entitled “Integrated Hydro – Irrigation – Restoration Systems”. This theme is a response to overcome various challenges, especially in water resources.

The event presented Prof. Edward P. Weber, professor of Public Policy of the Oregon State University, USA. He saw that problems regarding the management of our food, water and energy are still seen as partial problems. This perspective makes food, water and energy management inefficient and unsustainable. read more
