Yogyakarta, January 29th 2020 – In order to support the advancement of Indonesia’s young digital talents, the Faculty of Social and Political Science of UGM collaborated with Center for Digital Society (CfDS) and Forbil Institute proudly held a series of Digital Intelligence Lectures 2020/2021 with 1,800 participants. This program was aimed for all of the college students and general public that have an interest to work and create innovation in a disruptive era. This digital lecture series existed as an initiate from the Minister of State Secretariat, Prof. Pratikno; the Dean of FISIPOL UGM, Prof. Erwan Agus Purwanto; and Dr. Dedy Permadi as the Spokesman of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. With full support from the Ministry of State Secretariat, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, and Ministry of State Owned Enterprises, this course was designed to give an understanding about the digital world to the students and to encourage critical skills in solving social problems.
The Digital Intelligence Class Series is an ongoing effort to shape a digital mindset and practical problem solving skills. Therefore, this course also included support from technology companies from global and national levels. This course collaborated with Oracle, RedHat, Bukalapak, Cisco Networking Academy, Huawei, Progate Tonjoo, Dicoding, IYKRA, AINO, ICSF, and ID Talent. To further improve the digital skills of participants, there are two class divisions: Basic Digital Intelligence and Advanced Digital Intelligence. In this session the participants studied various trends and technological innovations as well as ethical considerations for the benefit of all people. One of the class discussions included: Cybersecurity for All, The World of Programming, Data Science for Social Goods, Cloud Computing, and AI with A Cause.
Both classes were open to the academic community of UGM, students from other universities in Indonesia, as well as the general public. To align participants’ abilities, various learning methods were also implemented, including Student Mentoring, Ask-Me-Anything Series, Insightful Learning Resources, and Independent Studies. The learning process was also carried out synchronously and askinron, where students can study according to their respective capacities and abilities sourced from the learning module on the website www.cerdasdigital.id.
In closing this inaugural program, Prof. Erwan Agus Purwanto stated that “FISIPOL, CfDS and Forbil Institute, as the organizers, will continue to be committed to improving digital literacy skills and data-based mindset for the entire community through a learning process like this.”
Treviliana Eka Putri, M.IntSec, as UGM lecturer and curriculum designer of this course, hoped that participants who have completed the class can take advantage of their digital literacy skills. “With their digital capabilities, students can make the best use of existing resources. Especially for the common interest based on each student’s field of knowledge,” Trevi said.
In line with the study on “Higher Education 4.0 and the Readiness of Indonesia’s Future Workers” which was conducted by CfDS in 2019-2020, educational institutions and students have to prepare themselves to enter the increasingly technology-based labor market. Understanding digital literacy and data and technology-based mindsets provides new opportunities and advantages when working, especially in the industries that require understanding in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), and data.
Therefore, FISIPOL’s commitment to this Digital Intelligence course can be a means for class participants to learn and prepare themselves so they can work and innovate in the world of work later by understanding digital literacy and digital technology mindsets.
