Yogyakarta, June 16th 2021━Center for Digital Society (CfDS), Faculty of Social and Political Science (Fisipol), Gadjah Mada University sent a researcher in a collaborative research that digs into the mechanism of Regulatory Sandbox in Indonesia’s health sector. CfDS Fisipol also organized an event titled “Supporting Health Regulatory Sandbox and Analysis of the E-Malaria Regulatory Sandbox Guidance Book ” in the Karaton 1 meeting room at Hotel Royal Ambarukmo to spread the information about the research.
CfDS researcher, Anisa Pratita Mantovani,LLM. Said that the purpose of the collaborative research that is headed by dr. Elsa Herdiana Murhandarwati, M.KesPh.D. from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK) UGM is in line with CfDS core values. One of the purposes of the research is to create a law management system needed in the digital health world. “The purpose is in line with CfDS value to increase society’s digital literacy and to support innovations that can help the digital transformation process,” said Tita.
In the research that is part of the grant from Education Fund Management Institute, CfDS Fisipol’s role is in researching the social aspect. CfDS researched the society’s readiness in accepting the digital health regulation, digital literacy, and digital health management once it is implemented as a regulation. “We also create an analysis about regulations that might be less dangerous to society,” said Tita.
In line with Tita’s view, Elsa reiterated that the research is a multidisciplinary collaboration that needs to be reviewed from multiple aspects. The research team consists of ten members from various faculties in UGM, which are FKKMK, Fisipol, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering, as well as the Faculty of Economy and Business. “We know that CfDS focuses on reviewing digital technology, telemedicine, and other digital-themed topics. CfDS also has a lot of experience and network that can contribute to the research,” said the doctor as the head of the research.
“We hope that the Health Regulatory Sandbox trial can be implemented soon,” said Elsa. Right now, the research team is finishing the E-Malaria Regulatory Sandbox Guidance Book. The trial is needed so that the research can create a comprehensive academic article to be given to the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Health. The result of the research will be a guide for other Health Regulatory Sandbox trials, not just e-Malaria. This is because, Elsa said, the Health Regulatory Sandbox does not exist yet in Indonesia. That is why, in this chance, the researcher invites many startups in the health technology sector to contribute to the work. More information can be seen in the e-malaria.wg.ugm.ac.id website.
