Become Youngtrepreneur: How to Start Your Online Business?

Yogyakarta, August 31st 2021─Career Development Center (CDC) Fisipol UGM again held a career webinar with the title “Become Youngtrepreneur: How to Start Your Online Business?” The event took place online and presented two speakers, they were Massageng W, the Lecturer of the Department of Communication Science of FISIPOL UGM and Sarah Azzahra, the student of FISIPOL UGM and owner of Selingan Foods. Attended by 50 participants, this event explored various topics on tips for building an online business, from planning to how to develop the business.

In the opening session, the first material was delivered by Sarah Azzahra about her journey to build the Selingan Foods business. Starting from a hobby of cooking, Sarah started her business from a small scale until now she is able to open three branch outlets in Yogyakarta. Interlude itself is a business unit engaged in the culinary field, with the main menu being mentai cuisine. In building this business, Sarah did a pretty good plan, and even had a vision and mission to become a market leader for affordable mentai food in Yogyakarta. In 2020, Selingan Foods is affiliated with PT. Alra Pangan Sejahtera, which in turn helps various business developments starting from the formation of organizational structures, opening branches, to capital assistance for business development. At the end of the sharing session, Sarah gave some tips for starting a business, namely focusing on product and marketing innovation, maximizing social media platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok, and websites, and lastly, increasing partnerships to expand the market.

Continuing the previous sharing session, Massageng delivered material on digital marketing for online business. According to Massageng, starting a business must start from a business model first, because this business model will be the basis for determining the most appropriate development strategy. While in digital marketing itself, an important point that must be considered is knowing the target you want to reach. In addition, we also need to anticipate cost and revenue, and adjust the allocation for business development. Starting a business is basically not an easy thing, the two resource persons advised that fluctuations in developing a business are normal, even if they fail, it will be a lesson to start the next business.
