Fisipol UGM Student of UGM’s KKN Programme Alongside the Government Accompanies Institutionalization of MSME In Order to Support the Economic Independence of the Local Population

Kulon Progo, 17th of August 2024—Students of Fisipol UGM alongside Sarayu Samigaluh, the KKN-PPM Team of the 2nd Period of 2024, carried out group organizing activities and the creation of a management board for MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) in the village of Banjarsari, Samigaluh District, Kulon Progo Regency. This activity is a collaboration between MSME, the local government of the village of Banjarsari, Kulon Progo Regency Department of Trade and Industry (Disdagin), and Sarayu Samigaluh.

The group organizing activities aims to help the actors of MSMEs in the village of Banjarsari so that they can have a much more systematic organization. This can help MSMEs in doing teamwork, internally and externally. The activities are divided into two main agendas, which includes the socialization and the accompanying agenda. The socialization agenda was done on Monday (5/8), while the accompanying agenda was carried out with varying times according to coordination with the group management.

The socialization agenda is presented by Edy Mulyono, A. Md. (as Disdagin of Kulon Progo), Gabriel Rio Aditya (Vocational School), Syifa Rizqi Amalia (Fisipol), and Wahid Nur Kartiko (Fisipol). Edy and Rio conveyed the material regarding online marketing as a way for MSMEs to adapt to the ever so changing technological advances. In his presentation, Edy explained the importance of online marketing for local products, online marketing strategies, online marketing media, the right ways to use an online marketing platform, and the urgency of developing an entrepreneurial mindset for MSMEs actors. “Entrepreneurs need to have these three things in mind. A positive mindset, vision for the future, and focus in order to develop an entrepreneurial mindset,” he explained.

The next session was communicated by Syifa and Wahid, who each brought materials regarding the construction of a management structure for MSME and socialization of AD/ART. “An organized MSME is an important one, especially when you consider that it can be a way for businesses to get law protection, improvement on competition, as well as more business opportunities,” explained Syifa.

The activities were then continued with a group discussion, which was done in a participative way by the MSME actors. As a result, an organizational structure was formed and a group name for the MSME was then decided as well. Its name is Banjarsari Bersemi, an abbreviation of Bersama Menggapai Mimpi. The formation of an organizational structure was continued with socialization regarding the urgency and the draft formation of AD/ART. “I hope that with the formation of a new MSME group, it can help support the local economy in this village,” mentioned Erna, as the leader chosen for the group.

It does not just end with the socialization agenda however, but it is continued with the accompanying session. The session includes a mentor session in regards to the creation of the AD/ART, formation of the proposal for economic assistance, and the strengthening of other institutions. “These sessions of accompaniment were done after the socialization so that the theory can actually be applied in the field,” explained Wahid.

This activity is a manifestation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which includes Sustainable Development Goal 1 No Poverty. Goal 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, Goal 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, as well as Goal 17 Partnership for the Goals.
