Yogyakarta, July 15, 2025—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is rich with diverse innovation units operating in various fields, from academic to social. The Creative Hub, or C-Hub, under the faculty’s auspices, is no exception. It brings together various disciplines to elaborate and hone creative ideas that can improve the quality of life.
Using a transdisciplinary approach, C-Hub serves as a dialogue space for young people to create opportunities from the challenges and problems facing society today. These opportunities are developed with a proven spirit of social entrepreneurship (sociopreneurship), which has proven to have social and economic impacts.
According to Bornstein and Davis (2010), social entrepreneurship is a process or activity undertaken by citizens to address various social problems such as income inequality, hunger, illiteracy, and corruption. Based on this understanding, a social entrepreneur is not merely seeking profit; rather, social activism is inherent in their activities.
In this regard, C-Hub is committed to providing new learning to facilitate the emergence of new social entrepreneurs capable of becoming catalysts for sustainable and better social change.
Therefore, C-Hub facilitates talents in understanding and analyzing social problems, developing solutions, and implementing these solutions in their social entrepreneurship activities. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (FISIPOL UGM), through the Creative Hub, provides a groundbreaking curriculum oriented toward the knowledge, skills, networks, and mentality of social entrepreneurs who can become catalysts for social change for the better. Based on processes and outcomes, the curriculum is packaged in a social entrepreneurship model based on pilot projects addressing issues relevant to social, political, and resource management issues.
Some of the activities undertaken by C-Hub to foster the spirit of social entrepreneurship among the younger generation and the community include curriculum development, in-depth mentoring through an incubation program, seminars and workshops, and counseling sessions. These efforts are combined into a program called Talent Pitching and the Community Entrepreneurship Academy, which is held annually.
