1000 Free Tumblers Program for Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Community

Yogyakarta, July 31st 2024─Responding to the challenges of climate change and efforts to reduce plastic waste, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted a movement of 1000 free tumblers for the academic community. This commitment begins with the symbolic handover of tumblers to new student representatives from six departments at FISIPOL UGM during the opening ceremony of PIONIR Society 2024 on Wednesday (31/7) in the West Hall of BB Building FISIPOL UGM.

In his speech, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, the Dean of FISIPOL UGM, emphasized the importance of sustainability in education and the environment. He stated, “As future leaders, it is crucial for students to understand the impact of their consumption choices on the environment. So, it is important to integrate sustainability into campus culture. We are not only obliged to educate students, but also to encourage them to be critical and constructive and to have civic responsibility to make Indonesia better, more democratic and more useful for all humanity.”

Not only for all new students, tumblers are also distributed to lecturers and other academicians at FISIPOL UGM. FISIPOL UGM hopes that this program can be the first step to reduce single-use plastic consumption on campus, while encouraging students to adopt sustainable habits from the beginning of their academic journey. This initiative will not only enhance their educational experience but is also expected to contribute to the faculty’s commitment to sustainability culture.
