Dean's Message
Welcome to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (commonly abbreviated as Fisipol UGM), which was established on September 19th 1955, aims to educate and enlighten the people of Indonesia and contribute to Social and Political sciences as a means to promote cultural headway, and autonomy in providing a contribution to public welfare.
57 years later, this great dream has come true. We can see thousands of Fisipol UGM alumni taking charge of strategic positions in several government institutions, both at the central or regional level, in the private sector, and non-government organizations. In addition, the research results accomplished by its academic community and alumni have provided significant contribution to formulating solutions that address issues faced by various countries.
Nevertheless, Indonesia will face greater challenges in the future. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada is, thus, committed to help Indonesia in finding solutions for problems relating to institutionalization of democracy and in strengthening its capacity while facing fierce global competition. Our strong commitment is manifested in the development of our study programs and innovative learning system, in the development of contextual research adjusted to the nation’s needs, in the formation of national and international level partnerships, and in our high dedication of serving the people.
The significant contributions provided by alumni, lecturers, and students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada are, both directly and indirectly, expected to be able to respond to challenges globalization pose by having better cultural understandings based on mastery of economic, social, and political instruments, and also to develop education curriculum based on the context of the current era.
