History
The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada–formerly the Political Science Academy–was initially established to educate government bureaucrat candidates in the field of home affairs, information, and foreign affairs during the early years of Indonesian independence. In the early days of UGM, the study of sociology and politics was in the same faculty as the study of law and economics. The Faculty of Sociology and Politics was then established as an independent unit in 1955, and it was later changed into the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, abbreviated as FISIPOL.
