Calling for Peace Amidst Crisis, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Holds Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 Celebrations

Yogyakarta, January 13, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) held Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 celebrations on Tuesday (January 13), at the West Corridor of FISIPOL UGM. Carrying the theme “God’s Love that Serves in the Midst of Crisis: Peace in the Heart, Peace on Earth,” this celebration serves as a space to return to God’s love that is present in peace, not merely talking about numbers or abstract futures. This is especially true in the midst of the crises currently facing the world, from the climate crisis and hydrometeorological disasters to social, political, and economic crises.

Primi Suharmadhi Putri, a lecturer in the Department of Politics and Government and Chair of the 2025 Christmas Committee, stated in her remarks, “As a population studying politics, social studies, and government, we certainly believe that peace does not simply arise. It is fought for, nurtured, and forged through the protection of people who rely on each other. Hopefully, through peace, we can all take home the spirit of serving society as a large community with a shared responsibility to care for the earth and the future.”

The event took place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. WIB and was attended by the entire academic community of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and guests. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by singing and the communal lighting of candles as a symbol of hope and peace. A Christmas reflection was delivered by Robertus Agung Suryanto, OFM, and he encouraged all attendees to emulate the values of love and service in their daily lives. The event concluded with a closing prayer, singing, door prizes, and a shared lunch accompanied by music.

Through this Christmas and New Year celebration, FISIPOL UGM hopes to strengthen the sense of togetherness, strengthen the value of tolerance, and foster a spirit of peace in service within the faculty environment.
