Yogyakarta, May 21st 2024─In order to maintain security stability and prosperity in the Asia Pacific region, the European Union continues to strengthen its cooperation framework with countries in the region. One example is the concrete action of the European Union initiated in 2021 through a map of cooperation in seven priority sectors of cooperation by the European Union, which includes aspects of welfare, green energy transition, maritime governance, digital governance and partnerships, connectivity, security and defense, and human security. In line with the direction of cooperation policy from the European Union, the European Union Studies Association (EUSA) in collaboration with a number of partners, including the Indonesian Community for European Studies (KIKE) and the Institute of International Studies Universitas Gadjah Mada (IIS UGM), organized the EUSAAP 2024 Conference. This conference is expected to be a strategic forum for academics to exchange knowledge about innovations, conditions, and even observations related to the changing foreign policy landscape of the European Union and countries in the Asia Pacific region from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, S.IP., MPA, Ph.D. expressed his concern about the challenges facing Indonesia. “We are faced with extraordinary changes that we may never have imagined. We at the university are also trying to understand what the changes we are experiencing are about. Then what are the implications, not only for education, but also society,” he explained. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM specifically focuses this discourse into three things, namely climate change, digital transformation, and social inclusion. These three challenges are the main priorities in formulating national development strategies towards the Golden Indonesia 2045.

Yogyakarta, May 16th 2024─Based on United Nations (UN) projections, the number of people aged over 60 years will increase by 12% to 22% from the initial number of 901 million in 2015 to 2,100 million by 2050. This indicates that the demographic of the world is aging. Therefore, various initiatives and efforts to create an environment friendly to the elderly population are important. Moreover, the realization of an inclusive environment for the elderly also supports the implementation of the 11th Sustainable Development Goal (TPB) concerning Sustainable Cities and Settlements.

The world is currently faced with challenges and changes, as well as uncertainty in the future. Understanding of geopolitics and public policy by the government will certainly determine the direction of Indonesia’s future movements. Yogyakarta, May 15th 2024─Fisipol Online Campus (FOCUS) is an online learning platform developed by the Academic Innovation Unit (UIA) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM. This platform is open to the public, so it can be followed by anyone who wants to experience learning with mentors and lecturers at FISIPOL UGM. This time, FOCUS opened a new class to improve future competencies, especially in the field of content creators, which was launched on Friday (3/5).
The class titled “Enhance Your Future Skills: Mastering the Art of Creative Content Creating” will be coached directly by one of the Content Creators, Danang Giri Sadewa or better known as Danang. “This class will not only convey about how to create content on social media, but also understand the flow of social media itself,” he said. According to him, the ability to create content is one of the competencies needed in the current industrial era.
Yogyakarta, May 13th 2024─The passing of the 2024 elections does not necessarily mean the end of political contestation in Indonesia. The many phenomena during the elections have drawn criticism from various parties, including academics and political observers. The Department of Politics and Government invited Arief Budiman, Chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU) for the 2017-2021 period, and Bambang Eka Cahya Widodo, Chairman of the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) for the 2008-2012 period, to a public lecture on Monday (6/5).
Yogyakarta, May 6th 2024─The world is experiencing a triple planetary crisis that includes climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. Various efforts have been made to address these issues, one of which is by adopting circular economy principles in business and daily activities. However, the understanding and implementation of circular economy is still limited to the business sphere. Responding to this, the Institute of International Studies (IIS) UGM together with the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) through UNDP Indonesia and Bappenas organized a workshop entitled Mainstreaming Circular Economy for Transformative and Sustainable Change as an effort to mainstream circular economy principles to the grassroots level on Monday (6/5) at the Mandiri Auditorium, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM.
Yogyakarta, May 3rd 2024─Responding to the need for integrated Electronic-Based Government System (SPBE) implementation in various agencies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM through Center for Digital Society (CfDS) established cooperation with the Regional Government of West Sulawesi Province. Through a meeting held on Friday (3/5) in the Dean’s Conference Room, the two further discussed the implementation of SPBE Internal Policy, SPBE Governance, SPBE Management, and SPBE Services. Especially, referring to the regulations enacted and the challenges faced in the implementation of the fulfillment of the SPBE index as a whole.
