To Boost the Spirits of the Digital Generation, Hakka Indonesia Held a Webinar Especially for Content Creators

Yogyakarta, 14 September 2022—Yogyakarta, September 14th 2022─Fisipol UGM’ Center For Digital Society (CfDS) is one of the media partners in Indonesia Content Creator Day by Hakka Indonesia. The event held online through Zoom on Wednesday (14/9) was aimed to raise the spirits of content creators in Indonesia. 

The development of digital media evoked plenty of changes, specifically in the sector of employment. The opening of new occupations such as content writer, content creator, social media entrepreneurship, and other job posts create plenty of new opportunities for millennials. Hakka Indonesia is one of the biggest agencies that delves in the digital media sector. Hakka Indonesia also accommodates content creators and sellers through the TikTok platform. “Hakka Indonesia creates this Content Creator Day in order to raise the spirits of youth to be the next content creator,” said Debra Zuan the MC. read more

Go South 2022 Discussed Strengthening Global South in Global Politics

Yogyakarta, September 13th 2022─The Institute of International Studies (IIS) under the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM held the fourth annual Go South 2022 Annual Convention on the Global South from Tuesday to Thursday (13-15/9) online. This event is also in commemoration of the 67th UGM Fisipol Dies Natalis and is supported by Telkomsel.

Discussing international relations and global politics, this event aims to examine strategies and issues that exist in responding to the division between Global South and Global North countries. The discussion was in line with the main theme of this event, namely “Transcending the North-South Divide?: G20 and Multilateralism in Turbulent Global Politics”. read more

ASEAN Study Center Released a Monograph About the Gender Issue

Yogyakarta, September 13th 2022—The ASEAN Studies Center (ASC) Fisipol UGM held a discussion to release a monograph titled Advancing Southeast Asia through Gender Mainstreaming on Tuesday (13/9). Inside this 2021 Monograph edition, there are ten selected articles under four subtopics: (1) mapping progress on gender mainstreaming in ASEAN; (2) addressing gender inequality in the workforce; (3) gender identity, participation, and politics of inclusion; (4) unraveling gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic; and (5) strengthening gender advocacy through grassroots movements. The discussion was moderated by Tunggul Wicaksono, Research Manager of ASC UGM. Tunggul as well as H.E. Yuyun Wahyuningrum and Joel Mark Baysa-Barredo were also the editors for this edition of the monograph. read more

Internship Preparation Series: Provide Internship Debriefing for the Students of FISIPOL UGM

Yogyakarta, September 9th 2022─Career Development Center (CDC) of FISIPOL UGM held a special seminar for students who wanted to learn about internships. The seminar entitled Internship Preparation Series was held for four days in two weeks, namely on September 1-2 and September 8-9 2022. During those two weeks, CDC presented several speakers with different topics who provided basic skills on being in an internship.

On the first day, the seminar started with an explanation of communication techniques in the profession delivered by the Founder & CEO of Bright Internships, Florensia Wijaya. “As good communicators, we must first know what message we want to convey, how far we convey the message, and who is the target audience in front of us,” she explained at the meeting on Thursday (1/9) which was themed Communication Skills for Workplace Success (Verbal Communication). She emphasized that one of the keys to success in an internship is how one can communicate well and purposefully. Furthermore, on Friday (2/9), CDC invited a Director of APINDO Training Center, Prof. Dr. Soeprayitno on the topic of Communication Skills for Workplace Success (Written Communication). The two meetings not only explained the material in one direction but practical material which the participants seemed interactive with. read more

SOPREMA 2022 Incubation Program was Held in Collaboration with DIT-PUI and C-Hub

Yogyakarta, September 9th 2022─Entering the seventh year of the event, the Young Indonesian Sociopreneur (SOPREMA) FISIPOL UGM was held again with the theme “#7TahunSOPREMA: Recover Together, Recover Stronger, Rise with Sociopreneur”.

“Through the holding of SOPREMA FISIPOL UGM 2022 this year, it is hoped that it can encourage the revival of the economy and social businesses which has been sluggish in recent years due to the pandemic,” said SOPREMA Managing Director, Hempri Suyatna.

Seeing the current pandemic situation that can be controlled, the SOPREMA 2022 series of events will be held in a hybrid (mixed online and offline) manner, one of which is the Incubation program. This incubation program is a tangible form of SOPREMA Fisipol UGM’s commitment to continue to develop the potential of social entrepreneurship by providing assistance to young sociopreneurs. read more

DPP FISIPOL UGM Holds Public Lecture on Politics of Clean Water Supply

Yogyakarta, September 9th 2022─The Department of Politics and Government of FISIPOL UGM held a public lecture entitled “Politics of Clean Water Supply: Seeing Community Participation in the Framework of Citizenship”. This public lecture was moderated by Dias Prasongko, a researcher at the Research Center for Politics and Government (PolGov) UGM with the main speaker Amalinda Savirani, a lecturer from the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

Amalinda stated that studies on water citizenship have actually been developed. In Indonesia, unfortunately, studies on water citizenship have not been widely developed. “This makes studies on water citizenship always open to academic research,” Amalinda explained. read more

Creative Hub of FISIPOL UGM Held Business Innovation Event for Young People

Yogyakarta, September 8th 2022─Creative Hub of FISIPOL UGM again held the Talent Pitching Batch 6 program. This event has reached the final stage which was held on Thursday (8/9) at the Digital Library Cafe of FISIPOLUGM. Six teams have been selected to advance to the final round and are ready to present their business ideas in front of the jury.

“On this CHub (Creative Hub) we have the earliest stage of incubation, where we have intensively assisted these partners for three months to be able to validate their business ideas so that they are ready to enter the market,” said Lisa Lindawati as Director of Creative Hub. She emphasized that the most important thing in this program is not the competition, but how bright ideas are not only based on creative thinking but must also be executed properly. read more

NGO Fair 2022 is Back to Raise Students’ Volunteering Spirit

Yogyakarta, September 7th 2022─Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Fair 2022 is back on Wednesday (7/9) after a hiatus throughout the pandemic era. The event that was held by the Australian Consortium in Country Indonesia Studies (ACICIS) with the Global Engagement Office (GEO) Fisipol was filled with domestic and international students.

NGO Fair 2022 invited several non-governmental organizations in Yogyakarta to promote their program. “We invite several organizations, research centers, and non-governmental organizations to come, with the hopes that students can find the organization that they see fit, specifically for those who like volunteering or doing internships,” said Dhani Karuniawan as the ACICIS Program Coordinator. NGO Fair is not only a place for students to find their volunteering and internship place, it is also a place to introduce many activism movements in Indonesia. One example of them is the orangutan conservation movement, an endangered animal that is often hunted. This organization invites the student to know the importance of preserving the wildlife through socializations and brochures written in two languages. There are also movements to educate and protect sexual violence victims, introduction of village self sufficiency and products, as well as the protection and empowerment of children in underdeveloped regions. read more

The Relaunch of the Shared Secretariat and Fisipoint in Welcoming the Start of Offline Activities

Yogyakarta, September 5th 2022—The Faculty of Social and Political Science held a relaunch of the Shared Secretariat and Fisipoint on Monday (5/9). The event was held offline and was attended by the dean’s staff, the department staff, student representatives, as well as Fisipoint’s seller representative. Dr. Wawan Mas’udi as the Dean of Fisipol UGM gave a welcoming remark which was closed with a symbolical potong tumpeng by the audience.

“There is more activity in Fisipol UGM. More students’ forums are emerging. I think that it’s the faculty’s responsibility to accommodate these forums by giving them their own space. That is why we re-opened the shared secretariat.” said Wawan Mas’udi. The creation of the shared secretariat was a product of collaboration with students. Through the reopening of this place, it is hoped that students can develop forums that not only delve into political issues but also financial education, culture, etc. read more
