The Department of Communication Studies Took Part in the Southeast Asia Conference on Media, Art, and Cinema 2021

Yogyakarta, October 4th 2021–The Department of Communication Studies, Fisipol, UGM is a partner in the online Southeast Asia Conference on Media, Art, and Cinema (SEA-MCA) 2021 held by Center for Southeast Asian Social Study (CESASS) UGM on 4–5 October 2021. The online conference held the theme of “Rediscovering Southeast Asia Amidst It’s Multi-Layered Burdens”.

The Director of CESASS and a Professor in the The Department of Communication Studies Fisipol UGM, Hermin Indah Wahyuni, said that the theme of the event was based on the social and political condition of Southeast Asian countries that are more complex as the Covid-19 pandemic goes on. She hopes that the conference attended by hundreds of participants from all across Southeast Asia can help in analyzing the dynamics of Southeast Asian countries through relevant topics. “There are 79 papers from five countries; Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Hongkong, and Singapore, that will be presented in the parallel panel sessions,” said Hermin. read more

Upgrade Your CV and Interview, Level Up Your Value

=&0=&The Student Corps of the Social Development and Welfare Department (KAPSTRA) Fisipol UGM held the second KKN webinar with the title of Upgrade Your CV and Interview, Level Up Your Value”. On this occasion, the event was moderated by Benedicta Nadindra S, a human resource staff at KAPSTRA and the speaker was Inaulia Sekar R, Founder and CEO in AIDE Consultant. The event was held online and was attended by 50 people. The webinar talked about the preparation to enter the working world, starting from how to prepare a good CV and how to do an interview well. 

Right now, there are pretty clear changes in the process of job recruitment. According to the speaker, the recruitment process goes faster, where it used to take years now it only takes a month. BPS Data shows that the fresh graduate trend is increasing from year to year, therefore fresh graduates need to realize that the competition in the workforce is very high. 

The selection process is also different in every company, but generally the selection process starts from cv screening, followed by a psychotest, then LGD or FGD, interview, and medical check up. Now that the recruitment process is done online, the once complex and long process is shorter and cheaper to go through.  read more

LPPM SINTESA Closes #SeptemberHitam with a Discussion “Seeking the Conscience of the Government Behind the History of the Bloody September”

=&0=&The month of September is always associated with various tragedies of human rights violations in Indonesia. In order to recall cases of human rights violations that had been raised through the #SeptemberHitam campaign on its official Instagram account, as well as to open a space for dialogue and collective reflection, the SINTESA FISIPOL UGM Student Press and Publishing Institute (LPPM) held a discussion entitled “Seeking the Conscience of the Government in Behind the History of Bloody September” online on Friday (1/10).

The discussion started with the presentation of the material entitled “Genocide ‘65: Government Conscience and Reconciliation” from the first speaker, Soe Tjen Marching, a lecturer at SOAS University of London and the author of Dari Dalam Kubur. In her presentation, Soe Tjen talked a lot about the urgency of justice for the survivors of the ‘65 Tragedy. Soe Tjen also took several examples and quoted her writings in the book Dari Dalam Kubur which also departed from the true story of the ‘65 Tragedy. Soe Tjen’s presentation of material also invited many positive responses from the participants. During the question and answer session after the presentation of the material, many participants used the raise their hand feature on the Zoom Meeting platform and wrote questions in the comments column to be answered directly by Soe Tjen. read more

Learn to Prevent Sexual Violence with Unala Youth in FCC Talk #3

Yogyakarta, October 1st 2021─FISIPOL Crisis Center (FCC) is back with the third FCC Talk on Friday (1/10). FCC Talk is one of the implementations of FCC education and socialization functions in order to prevent sexual violence on campus, especially at FISIPOL UGM. In collaboration with Unala Youth, a youth-friendly health service provider in Yogyakarta, this time the FCC Talk is also an effort to involve various parties in realizing a safe campus. Presenting Putri as a representative from Unala Youth, at this FCC Talk, Puspa and Yoseph from the FCC Education and Socialization Division talked about “Sexual Harassment: How Can We Stop It?” via an Instagram live broadcast session. read more

Be A Great Leader in VUCA Era

Yogyakarta, October 1st 2021─The Student Family of Public Policy Management (GAMAPI) Fisipol UGM held a LeadershipTalk webinar with the title “Be A Great Leader in the VUCA Era” on (01/10). This event was held by presenting resource person Erfan Ariyaputra, an expert in the field of Training and Development. On this occasion, the event was held online with discussion guides Nita Harmisa Dean and Arkananta Buwana, students of Public Policy Management (MKP) Fisipol UGM. This morning’s discussion was attended by 50 participants with various interesting discussions about leadership, ranging from basic definitions to various skills that can be developed to become characters that are able to adapt to changing times. read more

Projecting the Future of Artificial Intelligence with CFDS and Huawei

=&0=&Center for Digital Society (CfDS) of FISIPOL UGM in collaboration with Huawei Indonesia held the 50th DigiTalk discussion entitled “AI: Is it Important to be Adopted by Indonesian Organizations?”. Usman Niandinata, Business Development Director of Huawei Cloud & AI Indonesia, was the speaker in this discussion. The logic of artificial intelligence (AI) and its application in industry and organizations became the main discussion in the discussion moderated by a lecturer of the Department of Communication of UGM, Dewa Ayu Diah Angendari.

To explain AI in a simple way, Usman makes an analogy with AI as humans. Humans get data from various sensors, namely the five senses, in their bodies. Furthermore, the data will be sent to the brain to be studied. Today, there is a huge amount of digital data known as Big Data. The digital data is then processed and categorized by an “artificial brain” called machine learning and deep learning. Later, the categorization produces conclusions that can make the machine take a decision or action. “Artificial intelligence is a series, starting from obtaining, processing, collecting data, to drawing conclusions,” Usman explained. read more

Clean Water Management Politics for Urban Citizens

=&0=&The Department of Governmental Politics (DPP) Fisipol UGM held a public lecture for Urban Politics class titled “Clean Water Management Politics for Urban Citizens” on Wednesday (29/09). The class was open to the public and invited Nila Ardhianie, the Director of Amrta Institute for Water Literacy as the speaker. The event was moderated by Viola Nada Hafilda, a student of The Department of Governmental Politics and was attended by 50 people. This online event talked about water management, starting from the basic function of water for our life to the relation between water and power.  

To open the discussion, the moderator said that the class will be divided into two sessions; lecture and the question and answer session. The first session which was the lecture was given by Nila Ardhianie where she talked about the basic function of water. Generally, water is a vital resource for human life because it is important for our body’s metabolism and the development of a city. The importance of water in a human’s life is equal to that of food. In this regard, both resources are important to fulfill human’s biological need, economical commodity, or cultural strength.  The difference is that food is decentralized, locally grown, and is a part of the individual’s initiative. Meanwhile, water is organized by big bureaucrats, technical control, action and collective intervention in a system of centralized decision making.  read more

Tips and Tricks to Prepare Your CV and Interview from a Talent Recruitment Agent

Yogyakarta, September 29th 2021─FISIPOL UGM Career Development Center (CDC) career webinar is back on Wednesday (29/9). The career webinar invited Lady Daratuka Aderof as the Talent Recruitment team in Glints Singapore to talk about “How to Prepare Your CV and Conquer the Interview”. Lady talked about two main topics which are how to create a CV and how to do an interview. 

Lady started her speech by talking about the difference between CV and resume while talking about the contextual function of both documents, especially in relation to job recruitments in Indonesia. In both topics, Lady talked about the tips and tricks, do’s and don’ts, as well as the to-do lists in creating a CV and preparing for an interview. Other than that, Lady also explained several methods that one can use to enhance their CV and interview answers like using the ATS form for CVS and the STAR method ─situation, task, action, result─to answer interview questions.  read more
