Digital Library Fisipol UGM Presents Digital Literacy in Academic Writing Class

Yogyakarta, August 27, 2025—The FISIPOL UGM Library once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting academic activities by inviting Library Coordinator, Yuli Hesti Wahyuningsih, S.IP., as a guest lecturer in an Academic Writing class in the Department of International Relations. The event took place in two separate sessions, with the main topic being the library’s facilities and access, which have been transformed into a modern digital library.

In the first session, on Wednesday (August 27) from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. WIB in room BA 301, the Library Coordinator delivered a lecture on “Facilities and Access to the FISIPOL UGM Library.” This lecture was intended for regular students of the Undergraduate Program in International Relations. In her presentation, the Library Coordinator explained the various facilities available at the FISIPOL Library, including how academics can access digital collections to support their learning and research needs.

The second session, held on the same day from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time) in Room BA 101, focused on “Library Resources and Access at FISIPOL UGM.” This material was delivered in English to International Undergraduate Program (IUP) students. During this session, students were encouraged to gain a deeper understanding of the library’s various resources, how to access e-resources effectively and efficiently, and how to utilize the digital services provided by the library.

In both sessions, it was explained that the FISIPOL UGM Library has transformed into DIGILIB (Digital Library), a bookless library concept. This concept emphasizes open and unlimited access to digital resources, from e-books and e-journals to academic repositories, accessible anytime and anywhere. Students were also introduced to DIGILIB’s various superior services, including:

  • One Click Total Solution Portal, which integrates all faculty and university digital collections.
  • E-Reference Suggestions, a tool for suggesting course-based collections.
  • The on-demand training class facilitates information literacy, citations, reference management, and bibliometrics.
  • Workspace facilities and computer equipment support students’ academic activities.

The Library Coordinator’s participation in this academic activity not only strengthens collaboration between the library and study programs but also forms part of an effort to build a culture of information literacy within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM. DIGILIB is expected to address the challenges of academic information needs in the digital era, while supporting student learning outcomes at both the regular and international levels.

“Digital libraries exist not only as collection providers, but as strategic partners in the teaching and learning process and research. Students need to be trained to access information effectively, efficiently, quickly, and accurately,” said Yuli Hesti Wahyuningsih, S.IP., Library Coordinator of FISIPOL UGM, in one session.

With this activity, the FISIPOL UGM Library affirms its position as a modern academic information center that continuously innovates to provide the best services for the academic community.
