The agenda of this visit was to discuss the plan of the International Relations Study Program, FISIP, Mulawarman University, which wants to develop an International Class Program. Several things discussed included the history of the establishment of the IR UGM International Undergraduate Program (IUP), the advantages of the IUP IR UGM, and the challenges and opportunities for establishing an international class program.
The Head of the Quality Assurance Group of the FISIP Mulawarman University, Ainun Nimatu Rohmah, asked, “Does IR UGM open cooperation with foreign partners first, bring in foreign students first or what?”
Answering the question, the Head of the IR UGM Department, Nur Rachmat Yuliantoro said that in 2011, UGM took the initiative to create an IUP class. UGM then asked all Faculties about their readiness to run the class. After discussion, the Department of IR UGM agreed to establish the IUP class.
At the beginning of its establishment, the participants of the IUP IR UGM class only consisted of Indonesian students. However, IR UGM has several times encouraged global partnerships and collaborated with foreign universities, so that in the same year Flinders University submitted an offer to collaborate in implementing a Double degree program. IR UGM then aligned the curriculum to allow credit transfer. In 2013, IUP IR UGM students first departed to carry out the program. After that, several other collaborations were carried out by the department with the same commitment.
