Yogyakarta, August 6th 2025─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held the PIONIR Society in 2025 as a welcoming event for new students, or Gadjah Mada Muda (Gamada). More than just a series of campus introduction activities, this year’s PIONIR Society was presented as a space to represent the character of the new FISIPOL students—adaptive, creative, self-sufficient, and inclusive.
Carrying the theme “Derap Bara Arunika: Gapai Kilau Asa, AKSI Satya Nusantara”, PIONIR Society of 2025 invites Gamada to be like arunika which means morning dawn that illuminates oneself and the environment with a certain spirit, moving together in one big Fisipol family. The values of AKSI (Adaptive, Creative, Self-Reliant, and Inclusive) are the main breath of the entire series of events.
According to Ririent Wijaya, the General Coordinator of PIONIR Society 2025, the theme is not just a slogan but a representation of the values that will be carried out in the daily activities of Fisipol students. “The Bara Arunika Movement means not only being a light for oneself but also for the world and the surrounding environment through adaptive, reactive, self-reliant, and inclusive values,” Ririent said in an interview.
In his remarks, Alfath Bagus Panuntun, Coordinator of the PIONIR Society 2025a Cluster, also emphasized the importance of students’ role in safeguarding democracy and humanitarian values amidst the democratic decline occurring in Indonesia. “We at FISIPOL UGM should contribute to improving the state of democracy. Campus is not just a place to teach reason and thought, but also to sharpen the values of empathy and morality. We must be a generation of reformers who fight for Indonesia’s future,” Alfath emphasized in his remarks.
Additionally, there were classroom sessions, focus group discussions, and game-based learning sessions that introduced the campus’ academic and non-academic facilities. The Fisipol Exploration program took Gamada to various supporting units, such as Sansiro, Taman Pintar, and Fisipoint, through interactive game stations. In the evening, the Parade of Institutions enlivened the atmosphere with creative performances from various UKMF (Family Student Activity Units) and student organizations.
This year, the PIONIR Society introduced new innovations, such as the Parade of Institutions as a space for the organization to showcase itself, the AKSI Formation that formed the Society’s logo, and the Red Card as a symbol of resistance against democratic decline. The demonstration-like attributes—black clothing and Cakracita attributes in the colors of departments—added to the symbolic power of the event.
This aligns with FISIPOL’s commitment to being a campus that is not only a center of knowledge but also a transformative social force. “FISIPOL UGM is a campus that is a center of reference for knowledge and social transformation. We are committed to fighting for and defending social inclusion, as well as adapting global values such as cosmopolitanism to address the increasingly complex needs of society,” said Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, the Dean of FISIPOL UGM, in his remarks.
With the spirit of adaptability, creativity, self-reliance, and inclusiveness embedded in every series of its activities, PIONIR Society 2025 is the starting point of the Gadjah Mada Muda Fisipol’s journey to grow as critical, caring, and useful individuals for society. Through basic education such as introduction to the campus environment, instilling democratic values, and encouragement to contribute, PIONIR Society also affirms FISIPOL UGM’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4 Quality Education.
