Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Strengthens Research Ecosystem through Integrated Updates to the 2026 Grant Scheme

Yogyakarta, January 19, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), through its commitment to strengthening the research and community service ecosystem, has launched the 2026 Research Grant (HIBAH) Program. Beginning with an online socialization event on Monday (January 19), the Research, Publication, and Community Service Unit (UP3M) presented the latest scheme for the Grant, Facilitation, and Other Funding Program for the 2026 Fiscal Year.

This program, which has been running continuously since 2014, is aimed at lecturers, researchers, and students to encourage the development of quality proposals that contribute to strengthening scientific knowledge and social impact within FISIPOL UGM. FISIPOL UGM continues to evaluate and update its implementation year after year.

Dean of FISIPOL UGM, Dr. In his remarks, Wawan Mas’udi expressed the faculty’s support for this program through an integrated platform update. “We are comprehensively expanding the reach of faculty research support for the entire academic community. The faculty has also prepared a grant platform (website), the purpose of which is to ensure that the grant application and reporting processes are integrated within a single portal that is easily accessible and monitored, reducing timeline disputes and other issues,” he explained.

He also encouraged the continuous improvement of the quality of research conducted by all faculty members and the increasing diversity of study topics. The faculty consistently encourages research topics to remain within the faculty’s three main flagship areas: climate change and climate adaptation, digital transformation, and issues related to democratic inclusivity.

Fina Itriyati, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research and Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni, added the faculty’s commitment to continuously monitoring prospective research grant recipients.

“This year, we really want to monitor from start to finish. This means we oversee everything from upstream to downstream. We want to ensure that access to these grants is properly secured, then submitted, and published. At the same time, we always listen and seek input from fellow lecturers and students. We then process and discuss this information to inform future policies. For example, previous complaints that these grants were too small, especially for international collaboration grants, were noted, and this year, the grant amount was increased from one hundred to one hundred and fifty million rupiah,” she explained.

Fina also emphasized the importance of community service grants, which are not only intended for lecturers but also for students. “Community service activities, in relation to Student Student Creativity Programs (PKM), have shown that we can also encourage students to advocate in the community and produce insightful and strategic policy recommendations. We will also monitor these community service agendas to ensure they have a broad impact, not only on policy but also directly on the community,” she further explained.

This year, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is emphasizing the strengthening of its comprehensive monitoring and mentoring system, from the planning stage to the downstream research process. All grant recipients will be monitored from upstream to downstream to ensure that funded research is not only administratively completed but also fully published. This step is part of the faculty’s commitment to improving the quality and impact of research by its academic community.

Furthermore, the socialization of the 2026 Research Grant program also outlined various grant opportunities, facilitation, and other funding for this year. Through updated grant schemes, strengthened mentoring systems, and openness to input from the academic community, FISIPOL UGM hopes to build a culture of sustainable, high-quality research and community service that will have a real impact on the development of science and the wider community.
