The challenges of tomorrow are becoming harder to face. The fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0) has erased numerous jobs. However, plenty of new opportunities have also emerged through innovations to solve problems,” as stated by the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences during his opening speech at the Fisipol Creative Hub talk show that was held in a collaboration with Plug and Play Indonesia on Monday (21/1).
With the topic of “What are some problems that a startup can solve?”, Fisipol Creative Hub featured three main speakers; Dr. Wawan Mas’udi (Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs), Wesley Harjono (Managing Director of GK PnP) and Riki Sanjaya (Operational Director of Young on Top). The event, which was held in Mandiri Auditorium on the 4th floor of the Fisipol UGM building, has successfully attracted the interests of various participants, ranging from high school students to university students from all across Yogyakarta.
On the talk show, Wawan Mas’udi emphasized on the important role of educational institutions as a part of the Industry 4.0’s framework. “Tertiary educational institutions have been in the comfort zone for too long and has started to lose its relevance as a platform to explore the potentials of its students. Thus, a new ecosystem is needed,” according to Wawan.
Wesley Harjono focused on the issue of the relations between startup companies and the business environment. “The business environment has acknowledged the presence of new challenges, particularly startups, as slowly, the market is being dominated by startups, as shown in the fintech industry. Therefore, startups are starting to be approached by various actors in the industry as a partner for collaboration, instead as a competing rival.
Meanwhile, with interests in youth development, Riki Sanjaya have on numerous occasions mentioned the characters and the criteria of the youth that are necessary in order to be able to contribute in today’s world. “Despite all the limitations, the youth must be able to contribute by having skills, values, a strong character and sufficient knowledge. All of those aspects can be gained through experience,” as Riki stated.
After the question-and-answer session, this talk show was ended with a sharing session by Ghufron Mustaqim, the Vice President of Sale Stock, now renamed as Sorabelo. Ghufron shared his experiences and advices to the participants through questions and discussion in this session.
