Yogyakarta, 6 November 2018-CfDS UGM invited Haris Izmee, the President of Microsoft Indonesia, to the CfDS CEOTalk event that discussed issues surrounding Microsoft and cybersecurity (6/11).
“Every year, Microsoft spends billions of dollars to conduct research in the sphere of cybersecurity,” Haris stated. Besides research, another effort that Microsoft took to protect its customers is by investing in large sums, in which 5 of them are located in Asia.
Indonesia itself is a country with the third highest risk of malware attacks. Therefore, the issue of cybersecurity is an issue that deserves special attention.
“In 2017, 3.7% of the GDP loss were caused by cyberattacks,” as Haris has stated. Thus, cybersecurity is an issue that the Indonesian government cannot ignore further.
Microsoft itself is a party that always attempts to provide the necessary tools to enhance cybersecurity. However, as Haris has mentioned before, technology will always exist, and it is up to us on how to utilize it.
In addition, Microsoft also improves from time to time. Haris stated that, even though Microsoft is currently the second largest cloud company, Microsoft is the one that experiences the most rapid growth.
In regard to such, Haris stated that one of the things that differentiate humans from AI is that AI do not posses any wisdom. Consequently, Microsoft believes that humans still control AI.
Before ending the event, the organizers provided the opportunity for participants to ask their questions. 8 different participants have asked their questions to Harris in this opportunity.
This event was attended by more than 100 participants and occurred for 2 hours since it started at 08.40 a.m. on the 4th floor of BB building. After the handing of souvenirs from the Dean of Fisipol, Erwan Agus Purwanto to Haris, the event was ended with a selfie photo session.
