Yogyakarta, 27 October 2025─Peer counselors from the Career Development Center (CDC) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM) are once again organizing Mental Health Society 2025, an initiative that aims to raise awareness and concern among students about the importance of mental health. This activity is a tangible contribution from FISIPOL UGM peer counselors, who are trained students who have undergone intensive selection and training with professional psychologists.
“Through the theme ‘Knowing Me, Loving Me: A Journey of Self Love and Appreciation’, we want to invite our friends at FISIPOL to rediscover, accept, and love themselves for who they are. We believe that loving oneself is about recognizing the process, appreciating every small step, and building a healthier relationship with oneself,” said Laura, one of the MHS 2025 committee members and a Peer Counselor at the CDC Fisipol.
The Mental Health Society 2025 series begins with the “Mental Health Social Media Campaign,” a social media campaign that serves as a pre-event to spread positive messages about the importance of maintaining mental health amid the dynamics of student life. Through reflective and educational content, this campaign encourages the audience to care more about themselves and their surroundings.
Still in the pre-event stage, the activities continue with the “Journaling Corner: Dear Me, Thank You” which will take place for ten days, from Tuesday, 21st October to Friday, 31st October, 2025, at the West Hall of FISIPOL UGM. This journaling corner will be a space for students to reflect and write down their gratitude, feelings, and experiences as a form of self-appreciation.
The highlight of the event began with “Talkshow & Meditation: A Gentle Moment of Appreciation,” an opening activity that combined discussion and a light meditation session. The activity continued with “Spill the Tea: Little Wins that Matter” on Thursday, 30th October, 2025, at Taman Pintar FISIPOL UGM, which was attended by 30 participants. This event provided a safe space for students to share stories about the “little wins” in their lives—simple moments that are often overlooked but meaningful in the journey of maintaining mental health.
As a warm conclusion, the “Bouquet Workshop: Petals of Love for Myself” was held on Friday, 31st October, 2025, at the West Hall of FISIPOL UGM. In this activity, participants were invited to arrange bouquets of flowers as a symbol of self-love—a creative and reflective activity to close the series of events with love and self-appreciation.
Through this activity, FISIPOL UGM demonstrates its commitment to supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 3, namely Good Health and Well-being. The Mental Health Society 2025 is one of the tangible manifestations of the faculty’s efforts to create a mentally and emotionally healthy academic environment, while also fostering awareness that mental health is an important part of human well-being.
With a spirit of collaboration, empathy, and care, FISIPOL UGM peer counselors prove that maintaining mental health is not only about oneself, but also about building a more supportive and empowered community.
