Yogyakarta, 6 August 2025 — A total of 627 new students from across Indonesia officially joined the opening of PIONIR Society 2025, held at the West Hall of FISIPOL UGM. This year, PIONIR Society carries the theme “Gerak Bara Arunika”, symbolizing the spirit of being not only a light for oneself but also a source of tangible benefits for society and the surrounding environment.
The opening ceremony was marked by the symbolic distribution of tumblers to six student representatives from each department, underscoring the faculty’s commitment to the Green Society movement. The program continued with the ceremonial lighting of the “Dawn of the Journey”, representing the first steps of the new students (Gamada) in their academic and personal development journey at FISIPOL UGM.
In his remarks, Dean of FISIPOL UGM, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, highlighted three key characteristics that define the faculty as a space for students to learn and grow. First, as one of the oldest faculties not only at UGM but also in Indonesia, FISIPOL has long served as a central reference point in social and political studies. Second, FISIPOL is a campus that upholds the values of social inclusion. Third, FISIPOL is a cosmopolitan and globally oriented campus.
Through these three pillars, FISIPOL hopes that PIONIR Society will not merely serve as an academic orientation, but also as a foundation for new students to internalize life values, build networks, and cultivate awareness of their responsibilities as members of the campus community, the nation, and the world. This vision reflects the principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
