Yogyakarta, 7 August 2025 — The series of events under the 2025 PIONIR Society of FISIPOL UGM officially concluded with a Consolidation Forum, Public Action Simulation, and Inauguration Ceremony. Quoting Tan Malaka, “Idealism is the final luxury possessed by youth,” this spirit was instilled throughout the open discussions and public orations.
New students were invited to engage in critical conversations on two pressing issues within Indonesia’s socio-political landscape: the commercialization of higher education and freedom of expression. Beyond simply voicing their opinions, students were encouraged to understand that public oration is not merely about speaking loudly, but rather about delivering critiques that are sharp, well-argued, and substantive.
The action simulation came to life with a surprise theatrical performance by Teater Selasar. Through a blend of humor and thought-provoking drama, the performance sparked enthusiasm among the freshmen, earning resounding applause from the audience.
As the event drew to a close, the atmosphere grew even more vibrant with the inauguration ceremony, celebrated with the spirited cheers of Sospoligan and concluded on a festive note with a musical performance by the FISIPOL Music Forum (FMF).
The entire series of activities in the PIONIR Society went beyond being a mere welcoming tradition for new students. More importantly, FISIPOL hopes the program serves as a foundation for shaping the character of its students as individuals who are courageous in voicing opinions, critical in their thinking, open-minded, and deeply engaged with public issues. This vision resonates with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
