Yogyakarta, December 24th 2023─Six Fisipol students managed to contribute 4 medals in the 36th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) which took place at Padjadjaran University, Bandung. The six students who are divided into three teams are Jatayu Bias Cakrawala (Communication Science 2021), Trixi Karinina Dewi Sindhutomo (Public Policy Management 2022), Fachrurizal Mahendra Sujono (Social Development and Welfare 2020), Fadil Putra Pratama (Sociology 2020), Nadadistya Fourysa Iksani Putri (Social Development and Welfare 2020), and Nayla Dhiyaa Izzati (Public Policy Management 2021).
Jatayu Bias Cakrawala along with three other team members won the Gold medal (equivalent to 1st place) for the Poster Class and the Bronze medal (equivalent to 3rd place) for the Presentation Class Category of the Social Humanities Research Student Creativity Week (PKM-RSH). The research was about “Commodification of Empathy: Content Analysis Through Exploration of the Phenomenon of ‘Online Begging and Nyawer’ on Tiktok”. This research examines the practice of begging and nyawer on the Tiktok platform which has become a trend for content creators and the emergence of commodification of audience empathy.
“The empathy of the audience or viewers, which was originally ordinary and abstract, has experienced a shift in value which finally has a selling value. Usually shown by the audience through gifts given to content creators, that’s how the commodification of empathy is formed,” Jatayu explained.
Meanwhile, the PKM-RSH team consisting of Fachrurizal Mahendra Sujono (Social Development and Welfare 2020), Fadil Putra Pratama (Sociology 2020), Nadadistya Fourysa Iksani Putri (Social Development and Welfare 2020), and Nayla Dhiyaa Izzati (Public Policy Management 2021) won the Bronze medal in the Presentation Class. The research was entitled “Jogja Darurat Sampah: Examining the Role of Zero Inorganic Waste Policy and Public Awareness in Resolving Waste Problems in Yogyakarta City”.
Motivated by the unrest of team members who are local residents of Yogyakarta City regarding the unending waste problem, the team chaired by Fachrurizal examined the Zero Inorganic Waste policy with an evidence-based policy making approach in its evaluation instrument.
“From this approach, we then classify it into three stages, namely the problem formulation stage, the implementation stage, and the output/outcome stage resulting from the Zero Inorganic Waste policy,” said Nayla. The new Zero Inorganic Waste policy was implemented as of January 1st, 2023 in Yogyakarta City within the scope of Yogyakarta province.
Not only bringing home medals in the field of Humanities Research, the team led by Trixi Karinina Dewi Sindhutomo (Public Policy Management 2022) won a Silver medal (equivalent to 2nd place) in the Poster Class in the Field of Community Service.
With a background of unrest related to the importance of a good environment for child development, Trixi and other team members raised a topic entitled “Engklek Pintar and Psychic Assistance to support Child Friendly Villages around Pasar Kembang Localization”.
“Apart from being concerned about the condition of children in the neighborhood, it is also because similar issues are still rarely raised and sometimes even considered taboo for some people,” said Trixi.
Furthermore, Trixi said she was very grateful for all the friendships, lessons, experiences, and struggles during PIMNAS. “The price is too great, not just a champion,” she said.
