This breaking-the-fast event was not only intended to break the fast, but also served as a moment of togetherness for the FISIPOL UGM community. The Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Wawan Mas’udi, stated, “Of course, our breaking-the-fast together today is not solely to break the fast, as the main purpose of breaking the fast is to break the fast. But more than that, it is to strengthen the bonds of friendship among all members of FISIPOL UGM,” he said. He added that the more opportunities for gatherings like this, the stronger the camaraderie among the academic community.

The event also included a religious lecture delivered live by Prof. Suryono, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Gadjah Mada University (UGM). In his lecture, he addressed the topic of “the best nation,” as stated in Surah Ali Imran, verse 110, which contains the command to enjoin goodness, forbid evil, and believe in Allah. Suryono explained that being the best nation is not only about ritual worship, but also about interacting socially with good values. He emphasized the importance of setting a concrete example in inviting goodness, not just giving orders.
During his presentation, Suryono interjected humor and simple magic tricks several times, adding to the relaxed atmosphere. He even gave Rp 100,000 to two participants to demonstrate the concept of “value” in goodness. “The first (commandment) was inviting to goodness. This is an example of inviting to goodness. Entertaining people is inviting to goodness. Moreover, giving money to others. Everyone will be happy if given something,” he said, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
In conclusion, the breaking of the fast at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, was more than just a religious celebration; It is a celebration of community, education, and shared values. Initiatives like these play a crucial role in building a cohesive academic environment that aligns with the principles of the SDGs, particularly in promoting quality education and building inclusive communities.
