Yogyakarta, July 23, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) graduated 54 students from its Master’s Program during the Postgraduate Commencement Ceremony for the fourth period of the 2024/2025 academic year, held on Wednesday (23/7).

This cohort consisted of 31 female and 23 male graduates, representing seven master’s programs: 15 from the Master of Communication Science, 14 from the Master of International Relations, 9 from the Master of Public Administration, 8 from the Master of Social Development and Welfare, 5 from the Master of Sociology, 2 from the Master of Public Policy and Management, and 1 from the Master of Politics and Government. read more

Yogyakarta, July 22, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM) welcomed an audience visit from the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). The meeting was attended by the Chair of Bawaslu DIY, Drs. Mohammad Najib, M.Si., along with representatives from KPU DIY.

The audience served as a strategic discussion forum to address key public issues related to Indonesia’s electoral system. Prominent topics raised during the meeting included the arrangement of electoral districts, transparency in campaign financing, as well as the direction of future electoral regulations and policies. read more

Yogyakarta, July 17, 2025 — Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), officially held the soft launching of the book “Community Empowerment and Sustainable Partnership: Experiences and Reflections of Working with Communities in the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) Blora–Ngawi” on Thursday afternoon at Multimedia Room 1, UGM Rectorate Building. This book serves as a reflective and scholarly documentation of UGM’s long journey in community-based forest management since 2016. read more

Yogyakarta, July 17, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a visit from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (Untirta) Banten on Thursday (17/7). The visit was conducted as part of a benchmarking initiative as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding collaboration on the Tridharma of Higher Education.

The meeting focused on various aspects of the Tridharma, including research flagships, innovative educational programs, community empowerment initiatives, and capacity development. read more

Sudiana Sasmita, Ph.D., and Prof. Haryanto.

Titled “Understanding Indonesia’s Political System: An Introduction to Theory and Practice”, the book offers a significant contribution to political science literature in Indonesia. This episode addresses the timely and critical topic of Data Transparency and Proxy Data, highlighting ongoing challenges in ensuring public access to information in Indonesia.

Hosted by Rizki Dwi Lestari, a researcher at the Department of Management and Public Policy (DMKP), the episode features guest speaker Rizki Ardinanta, a researcher at PolDev and Project Advisor at Unitrend. MEGASHIFT, a publication initiative by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) Universitas Gadjah Mada, has released its latest feature article highlighting urgent socio-political issues in Indonesia. Titled “Indigenous Women and the Politics of Periphery in Forest Conservation in Papua”, the article by Halimatu Sa’diah sheds light on the structural injustices faced by Indigenous Papuan women in their struggle to protect ancestral forests.

The article critically explores how Indigenous women—often positioned at the margins of state power—play a crucial role in forest conservation through their deep-rooted local knowledge. Through the lens of periphery politics, Sa’diah analyzes how centralized governance in Java, industrial expansion, and the inadequate legal protection for Indigenous communities have systematically marginalized women, both economically and socially. read more

A lecturer from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), Universitas Gadjah Mada, has contributed to the academic discourse on human rights with the launch of a new publication titled the Routledge Handbook of Human Rights in Southeast Asia. The book was officially launched at the University of Melbourne, Australia, and is co-edited by Prof. Amalinda Savirani, a lecturer from the Department of Politics and Government at FISIPOL UGM, alongside Dr. Ken M.P. Setiawan, Senior Lecturer in Indonesian Studies at the Asia Institute, University of Melbourne. read more

The Master’s Program in Social Development and Welfare (PSdK) of FISIPOL UGM successfully held the PSdK Master’s Symposium over two days, July 7–8, 2025. Taking place at the BA Building and FISIPOL Auditorium, the event became a space for the exchange of strategic ideas involving students, lecturers, practitioners, and alumni.

The symposium opened on Monday (7/7) with a seminar entitled “Frugal Innovation & CSR” delivered by PSdK alumnus Adi Rahmadi. Held in BA 501, this session highlighted the role of low-cost innovation and corporate social responsibility in addressing pressing development issues. read more

Yogyakarta, July 5, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada continues to demonstrate its commitment to strengthening an academic culture that is reflective, productive, and impact-oriented. Through the Research, Publication, and Community Engagement Unit (UP3M), FISIPOL organized the Research Grant Progress Report Presentation Week from June 30 to July 4, 2025. The event was attended by nearly 80 grant recipients from various internal faculty funding schemes. read more
