Prof. Dr. Nur Rachmat Yuliantoro Inaugurated as Professor, Highlights Indonesia’s Debt to China

Yogyakarta, 24 July 2025 — Prof. Dr. Nur Rachmat Yuliantoro was officially inaugurated as a Full Professor in East Asian International Development at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada. In his inaugural speech, he addressed the issue of loans and national debt within China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which continues to spark debate over Indonesia–China relations. Prof. Rachmat offered a broad and critical perspective, raising concerns over financial risk and national stability. read more

FISIPOL UGM Graduates 54 Master’s Students

Yogyakarta, July 23, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) graduated 54 students from its Master’s Program during the Postgraduate Commencement Ceremony for the fourth period of the 2024/2025 academic year, held on Wednesday (23/7).

This cohort consisted of 31 female and 23 male graduates, representing seven master’s programs: 15 from the Master of Communication Science, 14 from the Master of International Relations, 9 from the Master of Public Administration, 8 from the Master of Social Development and Welfare, 5 from the Master of Sociology, 2 from the Master of Public Policy and Management, and 1 from the Master of Politics and Government. read more

Encouraging Knowledge-Based Elections, FISIPOL UGM Holds Strategic Discussion with Bawaslu and KPU DIY

Yogyakarta, July 22, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM) welcomed an audience visit from the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). The meeting was attended by the Chair of Bawaslu DIY, Drs. Mohammad Najib, M.Si., along with representatives from KPU DIY.

The audience served as a strategic discussion forum to address key public issues related to Indonesia’s electoral system. Prominent topics raised during the meeting included the arrangement of electoral districts, transparency in campaign financing, as well as the direction of future electoral regulations and policies. read more

Raising Awareness Towards the Issue of Gender-Based Violence, FCC Organizes Online Webinar on NCII and Sextortion

Yogyakarta, July 17th 2025—UGM’s Fisipol Crisis Center (FCC) organizes yet another webinar with the title “Digital Survivor: Recovering From the Trap of Sextortion and Non-Consensual Intimate Images (NCII)”. The issue raised in this webinar includes the prevalence of Gender-Based Violence (KBGO) which is still prevalent in social media. Due to this, the discussion session presented two speakers that are experienced in the field of advocating said issues, namely Chatarina Pancer Istiyani (Komisi Paripurna Komnas Perempuan) and Nabillah Saputri (SAFEnet). read more

Soft Launching of KHDTK Book: Reflections on Social and Ecological Collaboration in Forest Areas

Yogyakarta, July 17, 2025 — Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), through the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), officially held the soft launching of the book “Community Empowerment and Sustainable Partnership: Experiences and Reflections of Working with Communities in the Special Purpose Forest Area (KHDTK) Blora–Ngawi” on Thursday afternoon at Multimedia Room 1, UGM Rectorate Building. This book serves as a reflective and scholarly documentation of UGM’s long journey in community-based forest management since 2016. read more

Discussing the Tridharma of Higher Education, FISIPOL UGM Welcomes Visit from FISIP Untirta Banten

Yogyakarta, July 17, 2025 — The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a visit from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University (Untirta) Banten on Thursday (17/7). The visit was conducted as part of a benchmarking initiative as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding collaboration on the Tridharma of Higher Education.

The meeting focused on various aspects of the Tridharma, including research flagships, innovative educational programs, community empowerment initiatives, and capacity development. read more

Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM and Gaziantep University Launch Free Online Class

Yogyakarta, July 16, 2025─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), through the Academic Innovation Unit (UIA), is launching a free online class titled “Sustainable Transformation Towards Global Multifaceted Issues” on the FISIPOL Online Campus (FOCUS) website. This class is a product of a collaboration between FISIPOL UGM and Gaziantep University, and is supported by the Erasmus+ Project 2025.

Using English as the course language, this class aims to foster critical understanding in formulating inclusive and sustainable development strategies. addresses three main themes: industrial transformation in global production networks, sustainable food systems amidst multiple crises, and the green transition in Europe and its global implications. Participants will learn how global changes such as industrialization, climate and food crises, and environmental policies are reshaping urban spaces, local food security, and socio-economic policy directions. With case studies from Europe, Turkey, and Southeast Asia, the course fosters a critical understanding across diverse contexts and promotes academic collaboration in developing inclusive and sustainable development strategies. read more

Yogyakarta, July 15, 2025─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) of Gadjah Mada University (UGM), through the Center for Digital Society (CfDS), is once again offering the Digital Intelligence course in 2025. The Digital Intelligence course is an annual CfDS initiative that encourages the public, especially students, to become critical, reflective, and empowered digital citizens. This course is an official elective under the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, and is open to the general public free of charge. read more
