Yogyakarta, 8 April 2019 – The Vice Dean of Academic and Student Affairs, Wawan Mas’udi, welcomed the delegates of the China-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program 2019 in Fisipol on Monday (8/4) at the Eastern Seminar Room of Fisipol UGM. Mr. Weiping, the Vice-Director General of the Department of Education of the Fujian Province, conveyed his gratitude for the warm welcome throughout his stay in Yogyakarta and the pleasant atmosphere that he received in the UGM campus.
After the brief opening speech, the participants of this exchange programme participated in the sharing sessions that were organized by various units of Fisipol. The first presentation was provided by the ASEAN Studies Center (ASC), which is a multidisciplinary research center that studies issues surrounding ASEAN. Afterwards, Creative Hub (C-hub) delivered the second presentation. C-hub focuses on the development of the spirit of social entrepreneurship and has produced 27 changemakers.
In the third presentation session, the Center of Digital Society (CfDS) introduced its research center, which is utilized to analyse and answer the challenges of contemporary digital issues. The Youth Studies Center (YouSure), which focuses on issues surrounding the youth in Indonesia, delivered the fourth presentation session.
The Student Association of Belt and Road Initiative (SABRI) provided the last presentation session. SABRI represents students in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative and provides a platform for students from China and other countries to communicate. At the moment, SABRI has branches in Indonesia and Pakistan.
After the end of the previous sessions, the delegates also participated in a faculty tour, organized by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) chapter UGM. Wildhan Yohatam, from the Global Engagement Office (GEO) of Fisipol and also a project officer of this event, stated that the China-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program is a part of the Write to China competition. This competition is organized yearly by FPCI and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Indonesia to strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.
The delegates will experience the life of Indonesian students and will also visit culturally significant sites. Fisipol will use this momentum to strengthen the cooperation with Chinese educational institutions to enhance the capacity of both parties.
