The Soft Launching of the Digital Library: Fisipol’s Innovation in the Era of Industry 4.0

Yogyakarta, 1 July 2019—After the inauguration of the Digilib Café, Fisipol UGM’s digital library is now officially open for all faculty members. This digital library was built under a cooperation between Fisipol UGM and Bank Mandiri. This soft launching event was attended by several guests and students.

The event, which took place in Digilib Café, was opened by Erwan Agus Purwanto, the Dean of Fisipol UGM. “Having a digital library has always been my dream in the past four years. I thought that this was a mad idea, as we didn’t have the necessary capital. However, after cooperating with various stakeholders and Bank Mandiri, this digital library is finally complete and currently is the first digital library in Indonesia,” Erwan stated.

Afterwards, Maswar Purnama, the Head of the Java Regional Branch of Bank Mandiri, also presented his opening speech. “UGM’s superb support affirms us to always support the education sector in order to develop Indonesia’s human resources. Hopefully, this facility is open for everyone that wishes to learn, as UGM is for the people, and also owned by the people,” Maswar conveyed.

This event was proceeded by a tumpeng ceremony and a joint prayer. A tour followed suit, led by Yuli Hesti Wahyuningship, the Coordinator of Fisipol UGM’s Library. This facility is consisted of 3 floors, in which the 1st floor is the social zone and houses the Digilib Café. Meanwhile, the 2nd floor is the silent zone that contains a sport corner, a green screen studio, a discussion room and a mini theatre. The 3rd floor is the quiet zone, which features 4 discussion rooms and 24 computers.

This digital library also has its own platform at digilib.fisipol.ugm.ac.id, which provides e-journals, e-books, digital ETDs, podcasts, videocasts, digital publishing’s, digital archives, Digital Research Data Fisipol UGM (DIRDF) and other e-contents, as well as an Android application for Fisipol UGM’s library.

Adhika Trisliantama, a student from the Department of Politics and Government, attended this inauguration event. He was enthusiastic and fully supports this academic facility. “I hope that this digital library can ease the process of accessing online books. I also hope that other faculties in UGM will also build something similar,” he stated.
