Yogyakarta, February 29th 2024─TVR Indonesia Parliament held a campus talent selection at the Department of Communication Sciences (DIKOM) Fisipol UGM on Thursday (29/2). This program is a form of parliamentary media collaboration with Gadjah Mada University. From 29 February-1 March 2024, TVR Parliament will recruit five young campus talents who will have the opportunity to become news anchors for TVR Parliament.
“The cooperation between Fisipol UGM and parliament has been around for a long time. This is a very important event, and it started a few months ago when friends from TVR Parliament came to work with us. I think parliament needs to be socialized to the public. So far, if there is something good in parliament, it is difficult to report it. But if there is something bad, it will be reported everywhere,” said the Head of the Departement of Communication Sciences Fisipol UGM, Nyarwi Ahmad, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D.
TVR Parliament is a public relations news channel that was established to accommodate information from the DPR RI to the public. Since its founding in 2007, TVR Parliament has not only provided informative news but has also become a liaison between the community and the government. Entering its 17th year, TVR Parliament is committed to attracting young talents through campuses. This program is also an effort to channel talent and provide career opportunities to students before graduating from college.
“This activity is an activity held by the parliamentary television and news department, as an effort to socialize the program and bring Parliamentary TV and Radio closer to the general public. Through this program, it is hoped that students will also know about parliamentary programs, where we will also continue to socialize what has been done,” said Suprihartini, S.IP., M.Si, Deputy for Sessions of the Secretariat General of the DPR RI. Apart from that, TVR Parliament also plays an important role in building the public’s image and trust in parliament.
Generating interest in journalism in this era is considered quite difficult. The development of information in digital media has put society in an era of very fast information circulation. As a result, the spread of hoaxes and misinformation becomes uncontrolled. This is the big role of journalism in society. Collecting, sorting, and presenting credible information is a task and challenge in facing the digital era. This series of processes is much more difficult and slower compared to the spread of hoaxes and misinformation on social media.
“Journalism is different from journalistic. Now journalistic can be replaced with Artificial Intelligence (AI). But journalism values cannot. Journalism has at least two principles, firstly presenting credible news and secondly supporting the interests of society. This is what friends who are interested in journalism need to understand,” explained Imam Wahyudi, Practitioner and Media Expert, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM alumnus.
The collaboration program between TVR Parliament and the Department of Communication Sciences Fisipol UGM is also one of the implementations of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) points 4 concerning “Quality Education” and 17, “Partnerships to Achieve Goals”. Through this collaboration, it is hoped that other programs will emerge to support prospective young talents in the future.
