Closing the FISIPOL Healthy Week by Practicing Mindfulness

Yogyakarta, July 19th 2021—The FISIPOL Healthy Campus Week event came to a close on Monday (19-07). The event was closed with a webinar titled “Mindfulness and Self-healing for Work Productivity in the Online Era:, Working with Career Development Center (CDC), this event invited psychologist Vincent Eddy K.H., S.Psi., M.Psi., as the speaker and Dina Wahida, S. Psi., M. Psi., as the moderator.

The webinar was filled with a material presentation, question and answer session, and mindfulness practice. Since the beginning, Vincent guided the participants to be aware of their own psychological and physical condition. Participants are asked to write their thoughts, feelings, cravings, and daily activities in the last one or two weeks. To be aware of their physical condition, Vincent guided the participants to relax their body parts starting from the face and head to the back, chest, and legs. Vincent also talked about the importance of mindfulness practice and meditation to manage physical or psychological tiredness caused by online work during the pandemic. 

According to Vincent, mindfulness practice is aimed to strengthen our effort in knowing ourselves in the now and how to accept ourselves. Vincent said that the benefit of mindfulness is that it can lower stress in teenager, lower the emotional burden caused by heavy illness like heart disease and cancer, as well as increasing our resilience so we can work optimally. Vincent then listed the steps of doing a mindfulness practice. “Mindfulness can be done by first being aware of our physical and psychological condition, followed by understanding the adequate technique , and finally practicing it”, he said. 

Vincent also said that it’s best to practice mindfulness in a condition of silence and to do it gradually. Additionally, the physical condition needed for mindfulness is a healthy body, a comfortable article of clothing, and a comfortable body position. The mindfulness practice done in this event were the silent posture and active posture. The silent posture is done by using breathwork and love.
