Reviewing the Book “Guidelines for Editing Multimedia News: Alternatives from the Department of Communication Science of UGM” in the YouSure Book Talk

Yogyakarta, August 10th 2021─Some time ago, the Youth Studies Center or YouSure and the Department of Communication Science of UGM compiled a book that was the result of collaboration between the regular students who took News Editing classes and IUP class of 2019 students of the Department of Communication Science of UGM. In order to review the book entitled “Guidelines for Editing Multimedia News: Alternatives from the Department of Communication Science of UGM”, YouSure and the Department of Communication Science in collaboration with SKM Bulaksumur UGM held a YouSure Book Talk titled as “Young People and the Digital Age Content Creation Profession”.

This YouSure Book Talk brings together journalistic practitioners, as well as writers and editors of the book “Guidelines for Editing Multimedia News: Alternatives from the Department of Communication Science of UGM” in order to get a more complete discussion. As an opening, Annisa Nurul Hanifah as moderator asked questions to the editors of this book. Sequentially, Gilang Desti Parahita, Ana Nadhya Abrar, and Zainuddin Muda Z. Monggilo, who are also lecturers of journalism at the Department of Communication Science, shared their experiences and involvement in the editing process of this book.

The editors of the book “Guidance for Editing Multimedia News: Alternatives from the Department of Communication Science of UGM” were also confirmed by the two reviewers, Albertus Magnus Prestianta as Lecturer and Researcher at the Journalism Study Program at Multimedia Nusantara University, and Elin Yunita Kristanti as the Deputy Chief Editor of Liputan6.com. Both reviewers agree that this book is a good start and can be the right reading material for students, budding journalists, or other people who will be working in the multimedia field. This book not only offers theories and concepts, but also provides practical examples as implementation of the theories presented. As input for future development, Albertus and Elin also gave some suggestions and constructive criticism.

Two representatives of the authors of the book “Guidance for Editing Multimedia News: Alternatives from the Department of Communication Science of UGM”, Nadia Intan Fajarlie and Mario Stephen Hadiwaya, also shared about the part they wrote, the challenges in the writing process, as well as the expectations of the books and chapters they wrote. Testimonials were also delivered from several other parties such as representatives of SKM Bulaksumur, Network of Digital Literacy Activists, and Nyarwi Ahmad as Head of the Undergraduate Study Program, Department of Communication Science of UGM.

After the question and answer session, closing remarks from the reviewers, and thanks, the moderator closed the event with a conclusion and a group photo session.
