Collaboration between Briwork and PPC Dikom Fisipol UGM in Food Photography Workshop

Yogyakarta, September 10th 2021─Briwork Fisipol UGM together with the Semi-Autonomous Agency for Photography (Publisia Photo Club of the Department of Communication Science/Dikom of UGM) held Workshop #2 with the theme Food Photography. By presenting Putri Khansa (Instagram Food Photographer @khansa.cekrek) as a speaker, the implementation of Workshop #2 was carried out in three stages, starting from a material presentation session, a question and answer session, to closing with a mini workshop session by conducting several photo assessments of food products by the speaker.

Khansa started his presentation by mentioning that there are two key things that are important in food photography, namely creativity and exploration. Both are considered interrelated and become elements that need to be honed and continuously developed. These two keys will determine the quality of the food product photos we take. In addition to the camera, Khansa also explained that at least the key preparation needed is light which is the source for the natural color or not of the product photo, and photo properties, such as background and other additional properties. Talking about property, for this @khansa.cekrek business owner, additional properties can be prepared as needed. For example, additional properties can be initiated by presenting the ingredients that make up the main product or by adding basic properties, such as wood properties (plates, wood, spoons, forks, etc.).

In addition to the things mentioned above, Khansa also said that camera settings are considered important in every field of photography, including food photography. At least aspects of aperture (details in focus or not on the background of the photo), shutter speed (large or small settings will affect the blur level of photo objects), and ISO (light settings) must be considered in taking photos. Khansa gave tips, including for setting the shutter speed in food photography, you can use a minimum of 1/60 and for the use of photos that move quickly, you can use 1/400. While in the use of ISO, try to set the number not more than 2000 in order to avoid the appearance of noise.

Khansa also mentioned that one of the tips for making photos of food products more attractive is to use small lenses, such as Fix Lenses with a small f size. As for photo editing, application preferences can be adjusted according to individual needs, prioritizing the issue of exposure, highlight, and shadow elements. As for color settings, preferences will also be adjusted according to individual needs. Tips, try before taking photos of food products, look for natural lighting that would be sufficient.
