Yogyakarta, May 20th 2022─Re-opened this year, the Independent Learning of Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program created by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) has succeeded in attracting students in Indonesia to hone their skills according to their talents and interests by going directly into the world of work as future career preparation. Since its launch in 2021, the MBKM Program has been attended by 13,272 students in Indonesia. Of course, they are spread out in every program that is opened, starting from the Teaching Campus, Internships, and Independent Studies, to the Indonesian International Student Mobility Award (IISMA).
Welcoming this valuable opportunity, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is also one of the universities that actively encourages students to take part in the various programs offered. Without exception, of the 17 faculties, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM also sent its best students to take part in MBKM.
The presence of the MBKM program itself is quite an interesting opportunity and should be tried by students. Some of the things that will be obtained include practical activities in the field which will be converted into credits, exploration of knowledge and abilities in the field for more than one semester, learning and expanding networks outside the study program or home campus, to gain knowledge directly from the quality and reputable partners.
As one of the flagship programs, in 2022, IISMA is a program that is quite attractive to students at UGM. The good news is, that of the 561 participants who registered, UGM succeeded in passing 133 participants for IISMA 2022. FISIPOL itself contributed the highest number with 30 students from 126 applicants. The recipients of the awardees from FISIPOL UGM were 16 students of International Relations, 8 students of Communication Science, 2 students of Social Development and Welfare, 2 students of Public Policy and Management, 1 student of Sociology, and 1 student of Political Science and Government. In addition, the awardees were also scattered at various universities abroad, from the University of Liverpool in England to Hanyang University in South Korea.
