Yogyakarta, May 15th 2024─Fisipol Online Campus (FOCUS) is an online learning platform developed by the Academic Innovation Unit (UIA) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM. This platform is open to the public, so it can be followed by anyone who wants to experience learning with mentors and lecturers at FISIPOL UGM. This time, FOCUS opened a new class to improve future competencies, especially in the field of content creators, which was launched on Friday (3/5).
The class titled “Enhance Your Future Skills: Mastering the Art of Creative Content Creating” will be coached directly by one of the Content Creators, Danang Giri Sadewa or better known as Danang. “This class will not only convey about how to create content on social media, but also understand the flow of social media itself,” he said. According to him, the ability to create content is one of the competencies needed in the current industrial era.
It is undeniable that social media has become part of people’s daily routine. According to a survey by the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII), 63.74% or the majority of Indonesians spend 1-5 hours a day accessing the internet. This is not only because people have their own entertainment on social media, but also how social media has transformed into a professional field. This change is certainly inevitable, and has various impacts and challenges in the future.
Content on Tiktok, YouTube, and Instagram has proven to be able to attract high public attention, making it suitable for use as a promotional medium. “If we see something going viral, then many influencers follow. To make something viral, we must be able to present something different and humorous,” he explained. Netizens, as the digital media community is now called, tend to prefer things that are entertaining and in line with their sense of humor. This is why educational content is sometimes less desirable to netizens.
Another challenge in facing this all-digital era is of course the spread of hoaxes. The pace of information happens so fast without being matched by people’s ability to filter information. Hoaxes also often appear in various ways, such as the use of AI to influencers. Society is required to be able to adapt to the wildness of digital development today. Unfortunately, not all internet users have enough ability to use the internet wisely.
This FOCUS class provides various courses or learning to help people improve their competence in understanding the digital world. In addition to being useful as a provision for working in the industry, this learning can strengthen people’s social media skills, and hopefully protect users from the negative impact of social media. Along with this goal, FOCUS is also a form of implementation of FISIPOL UGM in implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 (Quality Education) and 10 (Reducing Inequality).
