Yogyakarta, 18 May 2025–GAMAPI FISIPOL UGM held an Environmental Action (Aksi Lingkungan/ Angklung) work program at Pandansari Beach, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta. This activity was designed by the Social Society division (Sosmas) of GAMAPI as a means of realizing positive contributions and responsibilities towards the environment.
“As students, we want to invite and provide a forum for other students and non-students to have a real impact on the environment as an effort to care for and increase awareness of our shared environment,” said Farrel.
The Angklung work program is held regularly every year with different activity concepts. This year, Angklung was held with cleaning and sorting activities at Pandansari Beach, which categorized inorganic waste into two categories: low-value and high-value. From this activity, 36.61 kg of low-value waste and 20.86 kg of high-value waste were collected, totaling 57.47 kg. Then the results of the waste collection were given to local waste processing partners, who would process it into gasoline. The event was also followed by a tote bag painting activity with educational intentions, but presented recreationally.
“This year, Angklung is special because it presents tote bag painting as a substitute for single-use plastic. The hope is that the participants of the Environmental Action can use the tote bag to replace plastic that has become part of people’s daily lives,” said Farrel.
The implementation of Angklung also involved the collaboration of external parties who contributed to the post-event. This activity collaborated with two environmental NGOs, namely World Cleanup Day Yogyakarta (WCD Yogyakarta) and Sibhumiasri (Sitakrama Bhumipalaka Asri). During the activity, the two NGOs served as facilitators to explain the technical aspects of waste collection and sorting. They also provided the necessary tools and equipment, including tongs, gloves, and sacks. Not only that, after the activity takes place, the two NGOs will process the collected waste and maximize its value based on the concept of a circular economy.
