The Social Research Centre (SOREC) of FISIPOL UGM Holds a Film Screening and Discussion of “Pig Feast”

Yogyakarta, May 12, 2026─SOREC FISIPOL UGM initiated the “Papuan Solidarity Space for Land Sovereignty, Food, and Life,” which included a screening and discussion of the film “Pig Feast.” Held on Tuesday (May 12) in the 4th Floor Auditorium of FISIPOL UGM, the event was well-attended by members of the FISIPOL UGM academic community and the general public.

The event began with a screening of “Pig Feast,” directed by Dandhy Dwi Laksono and the entire documentary team. The discussion continued with a discussion session moderated by Sana Ulaili (Forum Cik Di Tiro) and invited three moderators: Bagus Sulistiono (Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation (PPKK) FISIPOL UGM), Made Supriatma (CRRS, Knowledge Council YLBHI), and Herni Saraswati (Women Farmers). The discussion focused on the issues raised in the film, which were then addressed by the Papuan Student Alliance (AMP) and the Papuan Indigenous Peoples of the Meepago, Lapago, and Animha Regions.

Herni shared her feedback on the film “Pig Feast” as a woman farmer. “I see how hundreds of millions of hectares of land are being used for development with little regard for the community. That concerns me. This is land and a legacy that must be passed on to our future generations,” said Herni. She also expressed her hope that the National Strategic Projects would continue to address the community’s needs.

The event was not limited to the discussion session; various other activities enlivened the event, including a live screen printing event and poetry readings. political speeches, art exhibitions, and art performances presented by Membesak.
