Creating a Safe Space for Survivors, the FISIPOL Crisis Center Holds a Workshop “Harmony of Colors, Healing Together”

Yogyakarta, June 13, 2026—As a concrete demonstration of the institution’s commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and non-violent campus environment, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada, through the FISIPOL Crisis Center (FCC), successfully held a workshop entitled “Harmony of Colors, Healing Together.” The event, which took place on Friday (June 5) in Room BA 113 of FISIPOL UGM, was specifically designed to provide a safe space for student survivors of violence to express themselves and support their recovery process.

The workshop was motivated by an initiative to introduce and facilitate concrete recovery activities for survivors of violence. Through a painting approach, this activity aims to provide a platform for creative expression that can effectively support the healing process, while providing a deeply therapeutic experience for those who may struggle to verbalize their trauma.

The event began with a presentation by Pradita Artha Incentia, M.Psi., a psychologist, on the therapeutic benefits of painting. Participants were then divided into three groups, each painting on the provided media, along with complete equipment, to express their emotions and feelings freely. Participants were not only allowed to paint, but also to share their stories, guided by three professional psychologists from the Career Development Center (CDC) and the Fisipol Crisis Center of FISIPOL UGM. This expert guidance ensured that any emotions that arose were appropriately channeled, thus building mutual trust, a sense of security, and fostering solidarity among the participants.

The faculty focuses not only on academic achievement but also pays close attention to the mental and psychological well-being of its academic community. Through the active role of the FISIPOL Crisis Center, the faculty strives to establish a robust institutional support system to respond to and prevent all forms of violence on campus, and to encourage the creation of an inclusive institution.

Going forward, “Harmoni Warna, Recover Together” is expected to spark similar initiatives. Ultimately, providing a platform for survivors of violence to express themselves is part of a fundamental effort to ensure the right to a mentally healthy life and an inclusive environment without discrimination.
