Yogyakarta, August 5, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at UGM held the first day of the PIONIR Society 2026 event, themed “Weaving the Direction of Youth Initiatives,” on Wednesday (August 5). The agenda began with a guidance session, followed by an opening ceremony in the West Concourse area. A total of 629 new students from the Class of 2026 participated in this orientation program.
In his remarks, the Dean of FISIPOL UGM, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, conveyed a message to the new students about why they should be proud to be part of their dream campus, FISIPOL UGM.
“This campus steadfastly upholds inclusion, egalitarianism, and solidarity. These three values form the substantive foundation of democracy. Secondly, many major transformations in this country have originated from this campus, and you will become part of that legacy. Thirdly, this campus serves as a national and international reference point, allowing you to expand your networks. The fourth source of pride is that we—FISIPOL UGM—have you: 629 of Indonesia’s best young minds who outperformed the 17,000 applicants vying for a spot at FISIPOL UGM,” Wawan stated.
During the opening session, the Dean of FISIPOL UGM presented tumblers to six student representatives—one from each department—as a symbolic gesture; these tumblers will subsequently be distributed free of charge to all 629 new students. This initiative reflects the faculty’s commitment to supporting the “Green Campus” vision, which has been in effect since 2024.
The PIONIR Society 2026 event series was officially opened with the placement of a floral installation representing the six departments: International Relations; Communication Science; Social Development and Welfare; Public Policy and Management; Sociology; and Politics and Government. Each flower stalk symbolizes the light illuminating the journey of the Class of 2026 students (Gamada) from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Following the opening session and the *Simpul Wicara* (Dialogue Session), the event continues with various sessions held in classrooms. Topics to be discussed today range from youth initiatives and the dynamics of activism to the values of integrity. The day’s activities will culminate in the afternoon with the FISIPOL UGM Student Organization Parade.
