Yogyakarta, 12 August 2026─Fisipol UGM’s commitment to democracy was demonstrated through the Dean election process for the 2026–2031 term, which was conducted in a transparent, participatory, and inclusive manner. Since July 2026, the election process has comprised several stages—ranging from nominations, the presentation of visions and missions, and public hearings to the actual voting—which took place on Thursday (August 13) from 09:00 to 12:00 WIB at the Fisipol UGM 4th-Floor Auditorium.
Democratic principles were reflected in the involvement of all members of the academic community—including lecturers, administrative staff, and students—with participation proportions aligned with their respective capacities. Fisipol UGM also accommodated both in-person and online voting for lecturers currently studying abroad or those unable to attend in person. This mechanism was part of an effort to ensure that every eligible voter could exercise their right to vote.
Following the voting session, the vote-counting process took place from 12:00 to 13:00 WIB. The counting was conducted transparently and witnessed by four observers, each representing one of the dean candidates from the respective departments.
Based on the vote count from the Final Voters List (DPT) of 164 individuals—comprising 128 in-person voters and 36 online voters—the results were as follows:
– Gabriel Lele, S.IP., M.Si., Dr. Phil., Prof. = 59 votes
– Fina Itriyati, S.Sos., M.A., Ph.D. = 37 votes
– Arie Ruhyanto, S.IP., M.Sc., Ph.D. = 35 votes
– Bahruddin, S.Sos., M.Sc., Ph.D. = 25 votes
During the process, it was noted that three registered voters did not exercise their right to vote, while five ballots were declared invalid.
The involvement of witnesses in the vote-counting process is crucial to ensuring that the proceedings are open and accountable. The entire election process was designed not merely to select a leader, but also to serve as a democratic forum for the entire academic community to voice their aspirations and participate in shaping the faculty’s future direction.
In accordance with the UGM Rector’s Circular, Fisipol UGM will submit the names of the three candidates who received the highest number of votes to the University for further processing pursuant to applicable university regulations.
Through this open and transparent process involving all elements of the academic community, Fisipol UGM hopes that the elected Dean will provide leadership that is likewise open and democratic—capable of building upon past achievements while driving Fisipol UGM’s continued growth, contribution, and ability to address future challenges.
