Analyzing the Fate of Creative Industry Worker

Yogyakarta, 16 November 2020—Yogyakarta, 16th November 2020 – Young Indonesia Sociopreneur (Soprema) FISIPOL UGM is back with the second Soprema Talk on Sunday (15-11). This Soprema Talk is titled “The Covid-19 Pandemic: Analyzing the Fate of Creative Industry Worker”. Cooperating with Geronimo FM, Soprema Talk #2 can be seen through the FISIPOL UGM’s Youtube channel and Kongkow Bisnis Geronimo FM. The three speakers in this talk are Arief Ardi Nugroho, the founder of Funtastic Consulting; Irvansyah Utoh Banja, Deputy Director of Cross Sectors Public Relations at BPJS; and Tovic Rahara, the Head Director of Rajawali Indonesia. The second Soprema Talk began with an elaboration of the general information of Soprema by Rezaldi Alief Pramadha, a FISIPOL UGM professor.

As someone who works in the creative industry, Tovik talked about how in 2020 there could’ve been a lot of events he and his team handled, but it got delayed because of COVID-19. Tovik also said that at first, some events are delayed such as Prambanan Jazz. However, because the pandemic isn’t ending any time soon, the event is held virtually. “The virtual concept is the most feasible at this time,” Tovik said. Before the pandemic, Tovik said that Rajawali Indonesia already started an e-concert, which is a paid tv service that streamed every show ever done by Rajawali Indonesia, including concerts. This concept is then continued to be developed during the pandemic.

Tovik said that the trick for the creative industry to survive during the pandemic is to think more creatively. For him, the pandemic has the power to change many things including the creative industry. “We are forced to develop our capacity more,” Tovik said.

Not only Tovik, Arief said that he learned a lot and developed a lot of ideas when searching for the solution for the business during the pandemic. He saw the deserted Yogyakarta because of the Pandemic and at that time, fast food restaurants are pretty crowded because they have the drive-thru service. Then he has the idea to create a drive thru option for the donut business he has. For Arief, these things are called ‘studying the market’. “I study the market first, then I deliver the products,” Arief said.

When it comes to the vulnerabilities that workers face, Irvansyah said that during the pandemic, the employment sector of BPJS have created several programs. One of them is a protection for employers that work from home. Then BPJS also did a budget relaxation for Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM). “Since August 2020 until January 2021, for the JKK and JKM program, members only have to pay 1 percent,” Irvansyah added.
