Bisa Basi Kapstra Internship Sharing Edition

Yogyakarta, October 16th 2020—Social Development and Welfare Student Families or Kapstra of the Sinergi Bersama Cabinet 2020 held a program Bisa Basi Kapstra (Bincang Santai Banyak Inspirasi Kapstra) “Internship Sharing” edition on Friday (16/10). This event presented two seniors from the PSdK itself, Ella Puji (PSdK 2017) and Dwiarti Simanjuntak, S.Sos (PSdK 2016). It was held on Instagram Live on @kapstraugm and the event began at 04.00 p.m and was moderated by Luluk AR, PSdk student class of 2019.

The first speaker was Ella Puji, who shared her internship experience at DPPU Pertamina Adisucipto Yogyakarta. Towards the sixth semester, she was an intern with a position as a CDO (Community Development Officer) in the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) section. Ella admitted that she was not too busy during her internship because at that time she was not on the Proper (Company Job Rating Program). During one month of internship, Ella was assigned to monitor the program and provide assistance to the CSR program. She provided assistance to the community around Ring 1 Pertamina in two villages where the CSR program was carried out. There were several focuses that were carried out, such as forming groups of women farmers, managing cooperatives, creating business units for fish breeders, and so on. Apart from accompanying the communities, she also interacted with the community and found solutions together when there were obstacles or problems. Ella said she was happy with the job because most of them should have gone around the village. “I am happy because most of the time we walked in the villages. Usually we stayed in the office just until ten o’clock, then we will take a walk until 2 p.m.  in the afternoon, going around the village for monitoring activities,” Ella said.

Regarding internship info, Ella actually wanted to do an internship at Pertamina from the start, then she and her friends asked for help from the lecturer regarding the registration procedure. According to her, we can go directly through the official website of Pertamina MOR IV (Central Java and Yogyakarta regions) then go to Sinta’s section to fill in personal data and load files. The required files include: curriculum vitae (CV), proposal for internship plans, and cover letters from the department.

Ella said that the internship at DPPU Pertamina Adisucipto was quite unique because you can focus on the interesting field, it was the CSR and it was suitable for the PSdK students, that was CSR and Community Empowerment. From her internship, Ella could understand the vibes of a company, expand relationships, experience in the field, and most importantly practice communication skills because she can interact directly with the community. “Having experience in the field is very important for communication skills with the community, every day you were really invited to go to villages, socialized, asked about their problems, discussed, we had a chat and our opinions were considered,” she said.

The second speaker was Dwiarti Simanjuntak, who has experience as an intern at the DPR RI, especially in the Council Expertise Body (BKD). She was in charge of preparing the preparation of regional laws and regulations, both in the fields of social welfare, international relations, and the economy. Her activities were to attend meetings and write. Dwiarti was once assigned to write an analytical paper on sexual violence and present it. The presentation aimed to show commissions related to polemics in the community to be used as consideration for policy making. From this assignment, Dwiarti admitted that the knowledge during her study at PSdK could be applied. “In my opinion, it is very useful, our knowledge is used in terms of analysis, how to look at social welfare problems in society, which parts should be considered by the DPR to become the main policy,” she said.

Just like Ella, Dwiarti did an internship for one month while on vacation towards the sixth semester. Regarding internship information, Dwiarti said that she got the information from a senior who also worked at the DPR RI. Then, she wondered about the terms and procedures. The requirement was to prepare files such as CV, grade transcripts, motivation letters, student card, and internship permits from the OSS Fisipol. The procedure was to contact the post center of Pusdiklat (Center for Education and Training) of the DPR to ask about internship vacancies, then send the files directly to the DPR because they do not serve via email, and the last is to submit an internship focus area. Dwiarti advised that if you want to have an internship, you must prepare in advance to get a quota.

Besides expanding relationships, Dwiarti can also improve her soft skills in interacting and public speaking. Dwiarti revealed that the output she obtained during the internship at the DPR RI was the new knowledge about policy making which turned out to be not easy. “The output we obtained is of course the new knowledge about policy making, and it was not that easy. If we studied about theory on campus, it turns out that there are so many unexpected things in reality,” she said.
