[Call for Abstracts Invitation] – Go South 2025

We would like to invite you to the 2025 Annual Convention on the Global South, organized by the Institute of International Studies (IIS), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This year’s convention will be held in person in Yogyakarta, on October 1st – 2nd, 2025. 

GO SOUTH 2025’s theme is “70 Years Bandung Spirit: Re-invigorating Decolonial Struggle amidst Geopolitical Turbulence.” It seeks to foster discussions and debates on the dynamics of the Global South, 70 years after the Bandung Conference. As material conditions of the Global South countries have changed and new global-regional powers have emerged, how can such a global emancipatory project be reinvigorated? How can imaginaries of the Bandung Spirit be expanded, to project ideas for a just and peaceful world order amidst current geopolitical turmoils? This forum provides platforms for academics, policymakers, and the general public to connect, collaborate, and interact with peers with regards to the above questions. read more

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL), Universitas Gadjah Mada, announces the official registration timeline for the Odd Semester of the 2025/2026 Academic Year for all undergraduate and postgraduate students. The following are key dates and steps to be noted:

This academic registration process (herregistrasi) includes several stages such as tuition fee payment, academic advising, course enrollment, and confirmation of course plans (KRS). All students are required to complete the procedures according to the set schedule to maintain their active academic status for the upcoming semester. read more

Improving English Literacy, CDC FISIPOL UGM Once Again Opens Essential Skills Batch V Program

Yogyakarta, 22nd of March 2025 — Once again, Fisipol UGM’s Career Development Center (CDC) opens the Essential Skills : Intensive Writing and Speaking Classes Batch V Program. This program is opened in collaboration with the University of Melbourne in attempting to accommodate the student needs for English language learning, which is identified as an essential skill by the faculty for study and career preparation. At the same time, this program is also aimed to train self-confidence through verbal and written communication in English. read more

ASEAN-Maybank Scholarship Programme 2025

The ASEAN-Maybank Scholarship programme is a partnership between Maybank Foundation and the ASEAN Secretariat. It is one of the ASEAN-level initiatives undertaken by Maybank Foundation, a newly accredited ASEAN entity, with the aim to “promote an innovative ASEAN approach to higher education”, which is one of the strategic measures listed in the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Blueprint 2025.

The scholarship programme is designed to provide young, talented, and deserving ASEAN nationals with full scholarships to pursue their undergraduate studies at prestigious universities listed under the ASEAN University Network (AUN), located outside their home countries within the ASEAN region, while promoting intra-ASEAN integration. read more

Call for Papers Hybrid Conference on Digital Complexity and Disinformation in Indo-Pacific

There is an optimistic belief that the rapid advancement of digital technologies can foster a more inclusive societal landscape. However, the reality diverges from our optimistic expectations. Digital technology also serves as a catalyst for undemocratic tendencies. This is particularly evident as political actors leverage digital technologies as primary tools to achieve their goals, often disregarding democratic values. Various social media platforms, for instance, are utilized not solely for promoting certain political ideologies but also for disseminating misinformation and disinformation. Furthermore, not all users of these digital platforms possess adequate digital literacy. Consequently, fake news and hate speech proliferate across mainstream platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others. This proliferation has led to societal polarization and even conflict among opposing factions. read more

The Indonesian AID Scholarship (TIAS)

The Indonesian AID Scholarship (TIAS) is a grant program from the Indonesian Government that aims to support the achievement of SDGs targets, especially in the education sector. As a reflection of the spirit of the Asia-Africa Summit and South-South Cooperation, the Indonesian AID scholarship will develop the skills and expertise of future leaders from Indonesia’s partner countries. It acts as a soft diplomacy to strengthen cooperation and friendship among partner countries through the development of human resources between countries. The Indonesian AID Scholarship offers a scholarship program for associate’s, bachelor’s, professional, and master’s degrees for government officials and/or individuals who are recommended to work in the government sector under the grant policy regulations. read more
