Yogyakarta, June 28th 2022─Center for Digital Society UGM (CfDS UGM) in collaboration with UNESCO held a hybrid conference entitled ‘Addressing Gaps in Regulating Harmful Content Online’ on 28-29 June 2022. This event is part of the Social Media 4 Peace project funded by the European Union. Several expert speakers were presented in this event. Among them are Samuel Abrijani Pangerapan, Director General of ICT Application, MOCI; Faiz Rahman, researcher at CfDS UGM; Genoveva Alicia, researcher at the Institute for Criminal Justice Reform; and Noudhy Valdryno, Manager of Public Policy to Indonesia and Timor Leste from Meta. This event was moderated by Anisa Pratita Kirana Mantovani, researcher at CfDS UGM.

Yogyakarta, June 10th 2022─Center for Digital Society (CfDS) Fisipol UGM held Digital Experts Talk #11 with the title “Boosting Digital Economy in the Data-Driven Age” on Friday (10/6). The event, which took place via Zoom and broadcast live via YouTube Live, presented three speakers. Among them were Dr. I Nyoman Adhiarna (Head of DEWG Committee), Treviliana Eka Putri, (CfDS Researcher, UGM), and May-Ann Lim (Emeritus Director of Asia Cloud Computing Association), and Dr. Peter Lovelock (Principal, Fair Tech Institute, Access Partnership) as moderator.
Yogyakarta, June 10th 2022─Fisipol Crisis Center (FCC) Fisipol UGM held a Webinar Series #8 entitled “Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse” on Friday (10/6). The event which took place on Zoom Meeting invited practitioners from the Pulih Foundation, Yosephine Dian Indraswari.
Pulih Foundation is a social institution that is engaged in handling trauma and psychosocial cases of violence and natural disasters that befell women and children. Based on data from the Pulih Foundation, sexual violence against children has increased during the pandemic. Previously, the most cases handled before the pandemic were domestic violence, sexual violence that afflicts adults, and dating violence.
Yogyakarta, June 9th 2022─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held an Info Session “Master’s Study Program of Fisipol UGM” on Thursday (9/6). This socialization was attended by seven master study programs at Fisipol UGM, namely Masters in Politics and Government, Masters in Communication Studies, Masters in Sociology, Masters in International Relations, Masters in Public Administration, and Masters in Public Policy Management.
The event, which took place through the Zoom Meeting, was attended by around 200 new student participants for the master’s program. The Dean of Fisipol UGM, Wawan Mas’udi, gave a speech by introducing the profile of Fisipol as the most progressive faculty.
Yogyakarta, June 2nd 2022─The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM has officially launched a new facility called Family Wellness on Thursday morning (8/6). Family Wellness is a facility with a co-parenting concept provided by the faculty for the FISIPOL UGM academic community who have children before school age (kindergarten).
“The concept is that we want to try to build a work environment that does not separate the working place from the concept of child care. This is how we want to bring our sons and daughters closer to school,” said Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM, Wawan Mas’udi, in his speech.
Yogyakarta, May 30th 2022─The Department of International Relations of Gadjah Mada University (IR UGM) held the third Monthly Discussion with the theme “G20’s Energy Agendas: Shifts, Causes, and Challenges” on Monday (30/5). The event which was held through Zoom Meeting invited an IR UGM lecturer as the speaker, Raras Cahyafitri.
Energy transition is one of Indonesia’s priority agenda in G20 (Group of Twenty). The topic is part of the Sherpa Track which includes non-financial economic issues. However, energy issues are also an important part of the G20 Summit of heads of states, Ministries, or working groups.
Yogyakarta, May 28th 2022─Gadjah Mada University’s Family of Social Development and Welfare Student (Kapstra) worked alongside BRI Work UGM to hold Inspirational Talk #1 titled “Women Empowerment and Development” on Saturday (28/5). The event which was held through Zoom Meeting invited two speakers which were Linda Afriani, the founder of Jogjakarta Empowered Foundation and Suzanna Eddyono, as a lecturer in UGM Social Development and Welfare Department.
The first point discussed in this event is about women’s low participation in development and the public sector. Women are still seen as a subordinate who do not have the same rights as men. Women are only seen as housewives without any participation in the public sector.
Yogyakarta, May 21st 2022─On Saturday (21/5), the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) UGM together with the Alumni Family of Fisipol Universitas Gadjah Mada (Kafisipolgama) held a Syawalan event with limited attendees at Fisipol UGM’s West Hall, and also online through Zoom Meetings and Youtube Fisipol UGM. The event was attended by alumni families, lecturers, staff, and a number of students. Also, at the end of the event there was an entertainment performance from Neo Letto.
The 2022 Shawwal with the theme “Improving Post-pandemic Solidarity”, is the first offline Shawwal held after two years of the pandemic. “This is a very happy moment for us all. After we refrain from gathering together, we can finally chat with each other for two years,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, Wawan Mas’udi.
Yogyakarta, May 20th 2022─Re-opened this year, the Independent Learning of Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program created by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) has succeeded in attracting students in Indonesia to hone their skills according to their talents and interests by going directly into the world of work as future career preparation. Since its launch in 2021, the MBKM Program has been attended by 13,272 students in Indonesia. Of course, they are spread out in every program that is opened, starting from the Teaching Campus, Internships, and Independent Studies, to the Indonesian International Student Mobility Award (IISMA).
Yogyakarta, May 20th 2022─Fisipol Crisis Center (FCC) of FISIPOL UGM provides a briefing for FISIPOL UGM students who are enrolled in the Community Service Program (KKN) of Period 2 in 2022, by holding socialization entitled “Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence” on Friday (20/5). This event was filled by two speakers in their fields, they are Nurul Kurniati from Rifka Annisa Women’s Crisis Center and Arie Eka Junia from FISIPOL Crisis Center.
This KKN briefing aims to equip students on how to handle and report acts of sexual violence that may occur during the KKN period in June-August. In general, sexual violence is defined as degrading, insulting, assaulting, or other acts against a person’s body, sexual desire, or reproductive function by force. Sexual violence can happen to anyone, although women are still very vulnerable victims.
