Yogyakarta, September 8th 2023─Center for Digital Society (CfDS) of FISIPOL UGM together with Intudo held a discussion forum Digitalk #58 X BUMI (Berkarya Untuk Masyarakat Indonesia): “Understanding the Opportunities and Dynamics of the Start-up Industry” at the Auditorium Mandiri, on the 4th floor of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of UGM. This forum is intended to be a forum for start-up industry players, experts, students, and the general public to introduce various dynamics in the Indonesian start-up ecosystem today.
The discussion presented three key persons from three start-ups in Indonesia, namely Intudo, with Patrick Yip as Intudo Founding Partner, Timothy Astandu, CEO and Co-Founder of Populix, and Kenneth Tali as CEO and Co-Founder of SerMorpheus. Not only sharing sessions in talk show format, the C-Levels also invited participants to get closer to each other in networking sessions. This session is a golden opportunity for participants to gain career opportunities in start-up companies, as well as a medium for developing ‘digitally literate’ human resources that are suitable for the needs of today’s companies.
Syaifa Tania, Executive Secretary of CfDS UGM, said that this activity was a real effort made by CfDS UGM to support the development of Indonesian digital talents. “We really welcome this moment with enthusiasm. We actively work with partners from various lines to bring them together with digital talents who are ready to compete in the industry,” Tania said in her speech.
Sharing his experience in building a start-up, Timothy also shared new insights for start-up activists out there. “Talking about building a start-up, it’s certainly not easy. In the world, there must be difficulties. All start-ups have to start from zero. Start-ups must have a strong technology base that can have an impact, disrupting the world,” Timothy said.
Facing the challenges and dynamics of start-up development, there are certainly many aspects that influence it. Careful consideration through the role of the internal team is one of the important factors. “Joint collaboration between stakeholders, both in terms of academics, industry, private sector, and government, is expected to support the preparation of Indonesian people who are better prepared to welcome digitalization, AI, and other updates that come.” concluded Patrick.
