Closing the Mental Health Society 2024 Series, CDC Fisipol UGM Holds Exhibition on Failure

Yogyakarta, October 21st 2024─In order to close the Mental Health Society 2024, CDC Fisipol UGM held an exhibition entitled Fail-A-Bration in the West Hall of Fisipol UGM on October 24-25, 2024. The exhibition aims to provide a platform for students to reflect on their experiences with failure, encouraging a more positive and constructive view towards setbacks in life.

The main purpose of the Fail-A-Bration Exhibition is to provide a space for students to look at failure from a new perspective. It is hoped that students can view failure as an integral part of the learning and achievement process, not something to be avoided or feared. According to Valenidha Sulafi, Project Officer of Mental Health Society 2024, the theme “failure” was chosen specifically to inspire students to be more accepting of ups and downs in life.

“Failure is often viewed negatively, but it can actually be redefined as a natural process that is an important part of self-development,” Valen said in an interview.

Through this theme, the exhibition invites students to see failure as a means of reflection and learning. This is further an update to strengthen character and resilience among students in facing future challenges.

The works displayed in this exhibition are contributions from UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences students from various batches, who share their personal experiences related to failure. Visitors to the exhibition can also contribute to the exhibition by writing expressions of their emotions towards failure. The various visual works and narrative writings on display reflect the participants’ experiences of failure. Each work was designed to inspire visitors to reflect on their views on failure, including building a culture of acceptance and growth.

As the final agenda of Mental Health Society 2024, the Fail-A-Bration Exhibition marked the end of this year’s series of activities focusing on failure. Mental Health Society 2024 aims to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for students to share, reflect, and strengthen positive mindsets. Thus, the Fail-A-Bration exhibition is not just an exhibition but also a reminder of the importance of mental health in dealing with the complexities of academic life and personal growth. A strong foundation of mental health is essential to facing challenges and achieving one’s potential.
