Facing the COVID-19 Pandemic with Soprema 2021

Yogyakarta, August 16th 2021─The COVID-19 pandemic is not an obstacle for the Youth Studies Center or YouSure FISIPOL UGM to hold the Young Indonesian Sociopreneur (Soprema). Soprema instead used the COVID-19 pandemic as the north star for youths to develop social entrepreneurship ideas. With the spirit of resurrecting the economy and social business, Soprema 2021 used the theme of “The Innovation of Young Sociopreneur in Constructing the Nation in the Midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic”.

The COVID-19 pandemic also became a motivation for the Soprema committee to innovate in their line of events which was forced to adapt with the status quo and therefore was held online. Started with a press conference on Monday (16/8), the Soprema event was then followed by an open registration for the young sociopreneur competition from August 17th until September 17th.

In the press conference attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, UGM’s Rector, Dean of FISIPOL UGM, Director of YouSure, and the Head of Event of Soprema 2021, Dr. Wawan Mas’udi, S.IP., M.P.A, as the Dean of FISIPOL UGM explained that Soprema is a way for FISIPOL UGM to accommodate young talents all over Indonesia in improving their problem solving skills with a sociopreneurship logic. With that, the young sociopreneur won’t aim for profit only, but also will develop social empathy to solve social problems.

The Soprema 2021 event also had full support from UGM’s Rector and the Minister of Youth and Sports. As said by UGM’s Rector and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Soprema is one of the examples of how universities can encourage and create innovative, creative, and independent youths who are ready to create their own business.

As with the year before, there is also a Webinar, Soprema Talk, and Virtual Expo in the Soprema 2021 line of events. What makes this year’s Soprema different is the new TikTok Content Competition for high school students. The competition is aimed to introduce sociopreneurship to the younger generation so that high school students can explore sociopreneurship practices and become the next young sociopreneur.
