FISIPOL Opens Knowledge Channel for Publicizing Science to Society

Yogyakarta, 13 February 2025–Knowledge is one of the most important aspects of sustainable development in the academic sector. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol), Universitas Gadjah Mada realizes this urgency and is committed to channeling the contribution of knowledge to society. To achieve this goal, Fisipol UGM inaugurated the Fisipol Knowledge Channel on Thursday (13/2) at the 2nd Floor Auditorium, Fisipol UGM.

The Knowledge Channel is a special page that contains lecture materials for each study program, community education, and research dissemination. This page also provides access to other knowledge channels that have been owned by each department. The public can access the content on the page freely, either free or paid. Dean of Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM, Wawan Mas’udi, S.IP., M.P.A., Ph.D. explained that each department has actually pioneered efforts to publish knowledge since 2015.

“From 2013-2015, each department has pioneered, and until now there have been dozens or even hundreds of contents. But they were not well integrated, so we created this page,” said Wawan. Different activities are organized in each department to provide a forum for discussion and expert responses to current issues. The Department of International Relations, for example, has a YouTube and Spotify channel that regularly releases new content every month. The channel often presents the best experts at home and abroad on each issue raised.

There is also the Department of Politics and Government through the PolGov research discussion program that is able to produce collaborative programs such as Election Corner and Bulaksumur Roundtable Forum (BRF). Then also the Department of Public Policy Management (MKP) with the PolDev program, and other departments through YouTube channels and journal publications. Not only that, the Fisipol Knowledge Channel also contains opinions on climate change, inclusivity, and sustainability issues.

Wawan said that the effort to create a platform for the public provides an opportunity for researchers and academics to gain further appreciation. “We pioneered a digital web like this of course with a lot of capital, but the return also turns out to be many times. I think this encourages researchers to continue exploring science,” said Wawan. In addition, if all department activities can be united in one channel, it will be easier to track the development of activities in one faculty.

Support for releasing the Fisipol Knowledge Channel was also conveyed by the Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro, S.S., M.Hum., DEA. For her, the development of science will be the main thing for all time, but keeping it alive is also essential. “We don’t want when a scientist die, then his knowledge disappears. We need to do science management well,” she said.

Wening appreciated Fisipol UGM’s steps, which are always at the forefront of adapting technology to improve academic quality and contribute to society. The university itself also has a knowledge channel that the public can access. As a result, many people are interested in learning more about the materials on campus. “For example, in animal science and industry, it turns out that there are innovations from the campus that can attract public attention. Because the community also needs it,” said Wening.

Furthermore, Wening said UGM also has an agenda to encourage innovation, research, and technology development in the faculties so that the development of science can reach and be implemented in society. “Once again, I appreciate the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences for being at the forefront in adapting digital technology for knowledge,” Wening concluded. Currently, the Fisipol Knowledge Channel can be accessed through the website https://kanalpengetahuan.fisipol.ugm.ac.id/
